Job Opportunity

Safran Electronics and Defense Canada is seeking a skilled FPGA/PLD Designer to contribute to the development of electronic control units and components for aerospace and safety-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Capture and define product specifications into device-level requirements, including functional architecture, allocation, and justification
• Implement requirements into VHDL code, utilizing existing IPs and standard protocols (e.g., Omnibus, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, AMBA)
• Perform simulation, physical integration, and testing, including troubleshooting, debugging, and design modification
• Integrate designs into larger-scale products and systems
• Maintain life cycle data to support design, implementation, and verification
• Collaborate with project management to define development logic, flow, KPIs, and metrics for successful on-time and on-quality development and verification activities

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (or equivalent) with a focus on Digital Design
• 7+ years of FPGA/PLD development experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, or medical product environments using VHDL or similar languages
• Experience in architecture design and trade-offs to define, partition, and allocate requirements to complex devices
• Knowledge and experience with DO-254 or similar guidelines for ensuring a safe and rigorous design process
• Experience designing and implementing interfaces between digital devices and microcontrollers, including communications and data busses, common protocols, and error handling

Additional Considerations

• Background in embedded control systems, preferably in the aerospace and defense domain, including working knowledge of system interfaces and sensors (e.g., RVDT/LVDT, BLDC motors, Servo Motors, temperature and pressure sensors, ARINC communications)
• Working knowledge of the ModelSim toolset
