Position Overview:
TD Securities ('TDS') offers a comprehensive array of capital market products and services to corporate, governmental, and financial institution ('FI') clients through its Global Transaction Banking ('GTB'), Corporate and Investment Banking ('CIB'), and Global Markets ('GM') divisions. The firm strategically focuses on key global financial hubs, including Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, New York, London, Singapore, and Tokyo.
GTB consists of two main business segments: Treasury Solutions (Corporate Cash Management and Correspondent Banking) and Trade Solutions (Trade Finance and Export & Agency Finance), supported by specialized functions such as Transaction Execution, Product Management, Transformation and Innovation, Data & Analytics, and Business Risk & Control.
Trade Solutions provides client-focused solutions to mitigate payment risks and enhance working capital through traditional trade finance instruments (standby letters of credit/guarantees, import letters of credit, export letters of credit, and documentary collections) tailored to clients' domestic and international business requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transaction Origination & Structuring
- Oversee the complete transaction lifecycle, including origination (due diligence and pitching), structuring, and execution of opportunities within the designated portfolio.
- Support the senior origination team by identifying new business opportunities to expand our trade finance market share.
- Provide expertise in deal structuring and manage the preparation and delivery of innovative and timely term sheets and presentations.
- Coordinate credit approvals and pricing arrangements.
- Engage in client communications and presentations.
- Maintain a robust pipeline of prospective business.
- Collaborate closely with regional teams across North America and other key markets.
- Client Engagement & Relationship Management
- Enhance and manage relationships with an existing client portfolio through dedicated coverage, acting as a trusted advisor for all trade finance matters.
- Assist clients in navigating the organization and engage relevant partners to resolve client issues as needed.
- Transaction Execution
- Facilitate communication and client interactions with the CIB relationship coverage team.
- Assist in the creation of deal summaries and identification of new deal opportunities.
- Support the development of RAROC and pricing models.
- Guide the negotiation of credit-related documentation by collaborating with internal partners, including GTB Credit Management, TDS Credit Management, and TD Legal.
- Steward transactions through the credit approval process to successful closing and funding.
- Portfolio Management
- Evaluate risk, internal controls, policies, compliance, and profitability as part of daily responsibilities.
- Coordinate with credit and operational teams for ongoing management of the trade finance portfolio.
- Collaboration & Cross-Functional Impact
- Act as a vital member of the broader relationship coverage team within CIB, participating in joint efforts for client engagement.
- Develop a strategic calling and coverage plan in collaboration with relevant CIB relationship managers.
- Identify and promote cross-selling initiatives and opportunities within the organization as appropriate.
- Market Insight & Innovation
- Contribute to enhancing the TD and GTB brand through active participation in the industry and community.
- Stay informed about market trends, regulatory changes, and industry developments relevant to trade finance.
Qualifications:
- 7-10 years of relevant experience in trade finance or corporate/commercial lending within a major financial institution, including at least 5 years in a senior or lead role demonstrating a successful track record in deal origination and execution.
- Strong knowledge and practical expertise in the trade finance product suite, particularly standby letters of credit, bank guarantees, and documentary letters of credit.
- Experience in structuring complex financial transactions, negotiating legal/loan documentation, and a solid understanding of credit products, with a focus on trade financing solutions.
- Proven experience in developing relationships with large corporations and global financial institutions.
- Ability to create and deliver professional product presentations and ideas.
- Proficient in resolving client issues effectively.
- Willingness to travel within North America.
- Undergraduate degree – MBA, CFA, or equivalent experience in financial services, accounting, or legal fields.
- Strong geopolitical and financial awareness.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of self-motivation and initiative.
- Results-oriented with a consistent record of top performance.
- Demonstrated understanding of TD's Risk Appetite.
