Job Summary

At RESA Power, LLC., we are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Designer to join our team. As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and production of electrical switchgear systems and components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize engineering principles and design software to design and develop electrical switchgear systems and components.
  • Collaborate with engineering leaders and shop management to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and design requirements.
  • Perform design work for projects, utilizing principles of mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Coordinate manufacturing, installation, maintenance support documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and design requirements.
  • Establish construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing detailed calculations.
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment.
  • Review drawings to ensure technical and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide information and technical support to internal and external customers to meet customer and company expectations.
  • Coordinate with customers regarding specification/design questions and clarifications.
  • Work with Purchasing and Vendors to receive quotes and lead times to complete design.
  • Understand basic electrical and control system principles and familiarity with reading electrical schematics, three-line diagrams, and control/communication diagrams.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple group efforts within the company to achieve objectives.
  • Comply with IEEE, CSA, WCB, OSHA regulations to deliver an excellent safety record.
  • Competent with AutoCad, AutoDesk Inventor, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify processes needing improvement and recommendations towards improvement.
  • Coordinate with line management and production technicians to deliver high-quality products on time and budget.
  • Able to follow directions regarding assignment and customer expectation on projects.
  • Understand and follow company policies, provincial, federal, and safety policies.
  • Able to work overtime (nights and weekends) to complete jobs in progress.

Electro/Mechanical Testing

  • Internal champion for CSA, ULC, and other regulatory testing requirements to meet applicable regulations and standards.
  • Coordinate with Electrical teams for power testing of protective relay panels, medium voltage switchgear line-ups, test communication, and HMI components on the relay panel.
  • Reviews project specifications and implements testing procedures to comply with project requirements.
  • Awareness of requirements and coordination with electrical team for product QA/QC requirements.
  • Maintains test folder for all projects with relevant test reports, test drawings, and test pictures.
  • Leads problem-solving initiatives to analyze quality failures and help drive quality improvements through post-production assessment and continuous improvement.

Education Requirements

  • A diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology with a minimum of 3 years' experience.
