Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Disability Support Worker to join our team at WJS Canada. As a Disability Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities to achieve their personal goals and live fulfilling lives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and support individuals with developing and achieving personal goals, ensuring their basic needs are met and promoting independence.
  • Observe and document physical, developmental, and psychological needs of individuals in service, providing valuable insights for individualized support plans.
  • Participate in planning and safe transportation of individuals to vocational, recreational, and leisure activities, fostering social interaction and community engagement.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of individual service plans, program-specific policies, and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain skills and knowledge in human practice fields, staying up-to-date with best practices and industry developments.
  • Communicate and document information related to program changes and service recipient changes to peers, ministry representatives, and other stakeholders as required.
Requirements
  • Mandatory: One (1) year experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Minimum Grade 12 or Diploma/Degree in Disabilities Studies, Social Work, Human Services, Special Education, or equivalent.
  • Mandatory: A valid Class 5 Driver License with a clear driving abstract and reliable transportation.
  • Clear criminal record check and social services involvement check.
  • A positive attitude and belief in the rights and responsibilities of individuals with disabilities to define and pursue their life choices.
  • Skills in assisting individuals with anger management, daily living, self-help, and other essential life skills.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention, Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Proactive Procedures, and Behavioural Strategies training.
  • Knowledge of basic health and safety rules and guidelines for personal health and safety.
