CGS Federal is in search of a seasoned Network Engineer to become an integral part of a team dedicated to the assessment, improvement, and upkeep of a comprehensive network initiative. This initiative encompasses both wired and wireless network frameworks along with associated hardware and software components. The primary goals of this project involve analyzing the current configuration of various networks and designing & implementing a cohesive network infrastructure that meets the requirements for both wireless and wired systems, as well as software needs.
The role will also entail providing expert advice on the necessary hardware and software to support this extensive infrastructure, along with conducting systems testing, vulnerability evaluations, and quality assurance to ensure the successful implementation of the new network configuration. The selected Network Engineer will collaborate with local and state government representatives, internal stakeholders, subject matter experts, and vendors responsible for development services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and operate the NPS network infrastructure;
- Enhance infrastructure monitoring and reporting capabilities through the deployment of network management tools;
- Create, maintain, and present documentation related to the network infrastructure within the NPS environment;
- Evaluate current best practices and offer recommendations for the architecture, design, management, and operation of the network infrastructure;
- Oversee the Cloudpath onboarding process, monitor and troubleshoot wireless network performance, maintain wireless network infrastructure, and implement security patches and software/firmware updates during standard business hours;
- Assess the NPS network infrastructure and propose enhancements and optimizations;
- Establish and execute testing protocols for new infrastructure projects;
- Deploy technology solutions within the NPS network environment;
- Provide design recommendations for network solutions within NPS infrastructure projects;
- Deliver informal training and knowledge transfer to NPS personnel regarding best practices and operational theory related to network products;
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Information Systems, or a related field;
- Proficient documentation skills, including updating JIRA tickets, Wiki pages, and network diagrams;
- Ability to communicate effectively with end users, cross-organizational teams, and technical support staff;
- CWNA Certification or equivalent;
- BCNE Certification or equivalent;
- Experience with RF site survey tools such as Ekahau, RF Scanners, and Wireshark;
- Strong understanding of layer 2 switching and layer 3 routing protocols, including VLANs, 802.1w, OSPF, and VRRP;
- Solid knowledge of network security measures, including 802.1x, MAC Authentication, ACLs, RADIUS, and Certificate of Authority (CA);
- Expertise in troubleshooting RF and LAN issues;
- Familiarity with LINUX, MS Server 2013, VMware, etc.;
- A Master's Degree in a relevant field is a plus;
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in disaster recovery planning and implementation testing;
- Experience in penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and security testing;
- Knowledge of cyber threat information collection and analysis;
- Familiarity with Agile/SCUM project management methodologies;
- Additional industry certifications/licenses are advantageous;
