Position OverviewThe role involves overseeing the coordination of the team's activities to ensure the construction of infrastructure meets professional standards while adhering to safety protocols.
Primary Responsibilities- Lead and manage personnel, machinery, and resources in the construction of roadways.
- Ensure effective deployment and productivity of work crews.
- Maintain open lines of communication with the Superintendent and Project Managers, promptly reporting any issues that may impact project timelines.
- Collaborate as both a team member and leader throughout all phases of the construction process.
- Utilize surveying equipment to guarantee accurate grading.
- Organize and oversee daily operations of crew members and subcontractors, implementing corrective measures to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Ensure compliance with contract specifications for subgrade materials and base gravels.
- Identify and apply best practices for the efficient use of construction materials.
- Plan work systematically to maximize progress safely and timely.
- Review and adhere to construction schedules, ensuring milestones and completion dates are achieved.
- Ensure company equipment is operated lawfully, maintained, and utilized effectively.
- Interpret project plans and specifications accurately.
- Uphold a solid understanding of and comply with the company's Code of Ethics.
- Perform other operational duties as necessary.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent.
- High school diploma or G.E.D preferred.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in the road construction sector.
- 3 to 5 years of experience as a Base Foreperson.
- Willingness to operate equipment as needed.
- Knowledge of road construction techniques, materials, and industry standards.
- Strong time management, prioritization, and critical thinking abilities.
- Dependable and trustworthy character.
- Physically capable of lifting and carrying at least 50 lbs regularly.
- Availability to work overtime as required.
- Work schedule typically consists of 6 days on, 1 day off, with shifts up to 12 hours (weather permitting). Overtime compensation is provided as per applicable employment standards.
- Occasional travel to remote locations may be necessary, with accommodations and live-out allowances provided in most cases.
- Work is conducted outdoors, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, heat, humidity, and dust.
- Physical ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs regularly is required.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage is mandatory.
- Recommendations include using sunscreen, wearing long sleeves, and appropriate headgear.
- Compliance with the company's drug and alcohol testing policies is required.
