The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a pivotal role in leading and promoting excellence in pediatric rehabilitation nursing care. The RN's expertise is rooted in rehabilitative principles, addressing complex medical needs, collaborating with an interprofessional team, and partnering with clients and families to establish care plans that enhance independence and wellness.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

  • Employs theoretical knowledge and evidence-based practices to assess, implement, and evaluate nursing care across all inpatient units.
  • Delivers nursing care that supports the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual well-being of clients and their families.
  • Practices with cultural competence and sensitivity.
  • Collaborates with clients, families, and the interprofessional team to ensure effective discharge and transition planning.
  • Advocates for clients and families to achieve optimal outcomes and resource utilization.
  • Engages with interdisciplinary care teams and community providers to facilitate integrated care.
  • Respects and supports clients' and families' rights to make informed decisions based on their values and beliefs.

Collaboration

  • Works closely with clients, families, and the interprofessional team to establish client-centered goals.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills.
  • Adheres to established standards of care within a collaborative environment.

Leadership

  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance healthcare delivery.
  • Engages in activities that promote a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Utilizes educational strategies to inform clients, families, colleagues, and students in an academic healthcare setting.

Research and Education

  • Exhibits a spirit of inquiry by evaluating current practices and identifying research questions.
  • Applies nursing best practice guidelines in care delivery.
  • Participates in nursing research and utilizes outcome measurements where applicable.

This position may require rotation across various units, including the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team (BIRT), Specialized Orthopedic & Developmental Rehabilitation (SODR), and Complex Continuing Care (CCC). Successful candidates will be expected to adapt to the needs of client care across these units.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or actively pursuing a nursing degree.
  • Relevant job experience is required, with a preference for pediatric rehabilitation nursing experience.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and interprofessional team members.
  • Experience working with ventilator-dependent clients is an asset.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is mandatory.
  • Membership in RNAO is preferred.
  • Specialty Certification in Rehabilitation Nursing is an advantage.
