Position Overview
The Cost Accountant plays a crucial role in the continuous evaluation of product costing by utilizing efficient data collection methods. This position aims to deliver precise and insightful costing information to various management levels within Brandt Manufacturing Companies, thereby strengthening and standardizing cost accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting thorough planning, research, and data gathering to ascertain costs associated with business operations, including raw material acquisitions, inventory management, labor, and overhead expenses.
- Evaluating the collected data and documenting the findings.
- Assessing modifications in product design, raw materials, manufacturing techniques, or services to understand their impact on costs.
- Reviewing actual manufacturing expenses and generating regular reports that compare standard costs against actual production costs, addressing variances such as purchase price discrepancies and work order differences.
- Ensuring the integrity of processes within Manufacturing, Intercompany, and Inventory, collaborating with cross-functional teams to address process challenges.
- Documenting cost data for effective expenditure control.
- Conducting audits of costs and preparing comprehensive reports.
- Estimating costs for new and proposed products.
- Providing management with detailed reports that specify and compare elements influencing product pricing and profitability.
- Reviewing and analyzing new product costing in partnership with engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Maintaining the cost accounting system.
- Performing physical inventories and overseeing the cycle count program.
- Reconciling finished goods inventory records.
Qualifications
Essential Skills and Experience
- Possession of a CPA; CPA, CA; CPA, CMA; or CPA, CGA designation, accompanied by a minimum of three (3) years of experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing context.
- Experience collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams on the development and assessment of cost standards.
- A robust background in cost systems, complemented by advanced analytical and Excel skills.
- A solid grasp of accounting principles.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with a strong commitment to business ethics.
