Position Overview

The Director of Human Resources will strategize, oversee, and manage the policies, activities, and personnel of the Human Resources department in the region, ensuring adherence to legal standards and the execution of the organization's mission and talent strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directs the daily operations of the department, supervising the HR Manager based in the US.
  • Delivers constructive and timely performance assessments and ongoing feedback.
  • Manages employee discipline and termination processes in line with company policies.
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to align the organization's goals and strategies with staffing, recruitment, and retention efforts.
  • Plans, directs, develops, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and local surveys to support the organization's human resource compliance and strategic needs.
  • Administers or oversees the management of human resource programs, including compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, disputes, investigations, performance management, and occupational health and safety.
  • Identifies staffing and recruitment requirements; formulates and executes best practices for hiring and talent management in the region.
  • Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends, including reviewing reports and metrics from the human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system.
  • Ensures the organization complies with employment laws and regulations, implementing best practices to maintain compliance.
  • Stays informed about trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to recommend policy, practice, and resource changes to senior management.
  • Collaborates with the HR Director in Europe to facilitate professional development, training, and certification initiatives for regional staff.
  • Oversees facilities and office management.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation abilities.

  • Proficient time management skills with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in shaping and promoting policies and programs that foster a positive organizational culture.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to adapt to organizational and employee needs while prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations in both the US and Canada.
  • Familiarity with U.S. 401k Plans.
  • Comprehensive understanding of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams; experience with Sprout HRIS and Applicant Tracking modules is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of years of progressive human resources experience, including leadership roles.
  • Professional HR certification is preferred.
  • Experience in a multinational company is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience in employee relations and investigations.
  • Experience in facilities and office management, including establishing an office.
  • Required Canadian and US HR experience.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the VP of Human Resources.

Location

This position is based in Toronto, Canada and will initially be fully remote, with future regular office attendance required.

Bonus Eligibility

Eligible for a 10% bonus.
