Position: Apprentice Technician

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct maintenance and repairs on vehicles to ensure safety for all passengers.
  • Support Journeyman Technicians with preventative maintenance, safety checks, and annual inspections.
  • Assist in diagnosing and executing mechanical repairs under supervision, including brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmission clutches.
  • Accurately complete work orders and maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, including parts and supplies utilized.
  • Review completed work before vehicle release and obtain supervisor approval as necessary.
  • Report any potentially hazardous equipment and actions taken to rectify issues.
  • Safely maneuver vehicles between job sites and work areas.
  • Provide assistance during road calls and emergency situations as required.
  • Adhere to the standards, policies, and procedures set forth by First Student and First Transit.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Prior experience in gas or diesel vehicle repair is preferred; experience with school buses is advantageous.
  • Possession of a suitable mechanic's tool set is required.
  • Proficient computer skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Willingness to work assigned shifts.
