Position – UI Technical Artist

Location - Quebec, Ontario

We are seeking a skilled UI Technical Artist to join our project team at Haven Entertainment Studios. This role involves collaborating with our programming team to develop our UI toolkit. The UI Technical Artist will translate design direction into functional widgets, leveraging their technical skills in composition and animation. A strong grasp of both the technical and artistic elements of UI design is essential. The ideal candidate will ensure optimal UI performance and work closely with the engineering team to guarantee all UI features are functional and efficient.

Reporting Structure

The UI Technical Artist will report directly to the Producer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the engineering team to establish the project's UI toolkit.
  • Create widgets that facilitate rapid iteration on UI features for UI artists.
  • Prototype new widgets through scripting that are not included in the toolkit.
  • Utilize telemetry data to enhance UI quality and performance continuously.
  • Support the development of team skills and promote best practices within the studio.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience shipping at least one AAA console game.
  • Understanding of graphical parameters related to UI, including resolution, scale, and aspect ratio.
  • Proficiency in scripting.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical team members.
  • Self-motivated with a collaborative mindset.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Good understanding of user experience principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience shipping UI content in a 60fps game.
  • Expertise in Unreal Engine.
  • Familiarity with Sony's PlayStation console and tools.
