About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Veterinary Technologist to join our Critical Care team at Western Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Centre. As a critical care specialist, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the success of our team.

Responsibilities
  • Provide inpatient care, facilitating treatments, diagnostic work-ups, and monitoring of critically ill hospitalized patients.
  • Participate in ambulance service, being on call on your scheduled rotation for after-hours ambulance pick-ups.
  • Assess and determine priority of patients on the ER service, and assist the DVM with diagnostics, treatments, admissions, and discharges.
  • Administer anesthesia for minor emergency procedures, assist in set-up, and patient recovery.
  • Communicate with clients and referring hospitals on a regular basis.
  • Drive the VCA Canada experience and ensure our patients receive the highest quality care.
Requirements
  • Registered Veterinary Technologist in Alberta.
  • Preference given for a minimum three years of experience as an RVT, ideally in an emergency or referral setting.
  • Experience in providing general anesthesia and monitoring in dogs and cats.
  • Ability to think critically and multi-task while working in a fast-paced, stimulating environment with challenging cases.
  • Exceptional time-management skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in performing calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.).
  • Ability to work well with others in a hospital that requires a multi-disciplinary team approach among the specialty services.
  • Compassionate care and superior client communication skills.
  • Preference given to those with VTS in Emergency and Critical Care, however not necessary.
