Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Technician to join our team in Ottawa. As a Geotechnical Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting our engineering staff and contributing to the success of our projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of tasks in support of engineering office and field staff, including testing and assessment of construction materials.
  • Attend projects experiencing problematic ground conditions, perform measurements, and record observations, and liaise with project engineering staff to determine cost-effective solutions.
  • Collect and analyze data, including granular and soils material sampling, and coordinate with utility locators and sub-contractor representatives.
  • Assist with mobilization and demobilization of project-related equipment, filing project-related notes and drawings, and preparing field instructions and Health and Safety plans.
  • Collect environmental samples (soil and water) for chemical assessment in support of construction activities, and assist with other environmental field scopes of work as required.
  • Communicate with Senior Engineering Staff regarding field observations and equipment needs during project work.
Requirements
  • High School diploma with 2+ years of related field experience.
  • Availability to travel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Good understanding of soils and geotechnical principles.
  • Past experience in geotechnical drilling (soil logging, in-situ site testing, rock core logging) would be an asset.
