Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patient care requirements and develop, implement, and assess care programs.
  • Administer comprehensive care to assigned patients while supervising trainee nurses and Health Care Support Workers.
  • Manage medication and controlled substances used in patient care, ensuring adherence to safe administration protocols and inventory management.
  • Collaborate with Trust/unit and ward policies to uphold professional standards, clinical excellence, and patient safety.
  • Develop the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively in emergency situations and participate in mandatory training sessions.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding and practical experience in hand hygiene and environmental sanitation in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Understand infection control principles and strategies to prevent cross-contamination in patient care and clinical settings.
  • Communicate essential care information and address inquiries from patients, their families, and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Perform cannulation and phlebotomy following a structured training program to ensure competency and compliance with Trust policies.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure the maintenance of a safe and acceptable inpatient environment, addressing hazards and malfunctioning equipment promptly.
  • Manage patient care in accordance with the directives of the nurse in charge.
  • Consult with the nurse in charge regarding patient care issues as necessary.
  • Utilize effective communication, both written and verbal, to enhance patient care and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to the discharge planning process, informing relevant healthcare professionals of patient needs and family requests.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized ward environment, reporting hazards to the nurse in charge to mitigate risks.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Trust's Corporate Governance Strategy and its implications for accountability, financial management, patient engagement, and clinical outcomes.
  • Exhibit courtesy and helpfulness towards patients, families, colleagues, and all Trust users.
