SAIT's Athletic and Recreation department plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall experience for students. We are dedicated to supporting Trojans athletes across various sports, including hockey and golf. Our programs and facilities are designed to promote active and healthy lifestyles for students, staff, alumni, and the community.
Position Overview
The Athletics and Recreation department is seeking dedicated assistant coaches and team managers to contribute to the Trojans Athletics & Recreational program. This role focuses on:
- Engaging students and enhancing their experience.
- Supporting student participation and competitive goals.
- Assessing skills, scouting players, and promoting the team.
- Coordinating tactical, technical, and strategic skills while fostering team cohesion.
- Planning with a focus on podium finishes and social development.
- Managing rosters and enhancing team dynamics.
- Providing leadership and support during games and events.
- Working weekends and evenings as required throughout the season.
- Traveling as part of the coaching responsibilities.
- Handling off-court duties related to coaching.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Management
- Assist the Head Coach with administrative, logistical, financial, and personnel tasks.
- Support all team-related activities with the help of Trojans administration and the assigned sport coordinator.
- Coaching Duties
- Create an environment that aligns with SAIT FIRST principles, fostering the holistic growth of student-athletes and staff.
- Develop a culture of excellence that inspires athletes and staff to excel in all aspects of Trojans programming.
- Conduct effective practices and training sessions that allow student-athletes to improve while balancing academic commitments.
- Collaborate with the Head Athletic Therapist to ensure training programs promote injury prevention and optimal health.
- Administrative Tasks
- Ensure compliance with Trojans and ACAC requirements for athlete onboarding each season.
- Follow SAIT policies and procedures, including purchasing, time entry, and mandatory training.
- Manage team scheduling, planning, and communication.
- Complete post-event reports and document impact as needed.
- Submit required documentation and compliance-related materials in a timely manner.
- EDI, SafeSport & SAIT Engagement
- Promote SAIT and Trojans initiatives beyond athletic pursuits.
- Encourage a #wearetrojans mentality.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma.
- NCCP Registration and pursuit of sport-specific training.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in a relevant field.
- NCCP Entry Level sport-specific training.
- Skills Required
- Enthusiastic individuals with a passion for sports and a focus on student-athlete development.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively.
- Exceptional customer service skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
