About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Food Service Worker to join our team at Country Grocer Salt Spring Island. As a Food Service Worker, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service and ensuring the smooth operation of our food service department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Food Preparation and Service
    • Prepare and cook food items to order, including operating dishwashers, washing dishes, and sanitizing kitchen equipment.
    • Portion and wrap foods, package take-out food, and prepare simple food items.
    • Serve customers at counters or buffet tables, and operate cash registers.
  • Inventory Management
    • Receive, unpack, and store supplies in refrigerators, freezers, cupboards, and other storage areas.
    • Restock refrigerators and salad bars, and maintain sales records for inventory control.
  • Customer Service
    • Provide exceptional customer service, including greeting customers, discussing merchandise, and handling customer transactions.
    • Assist customers with purchases, and provide advice on merchandise.
  • Housekeeping and Sanitation
    • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, work surfaces, and storage areas.
    • Remove kitchen garbage and trash, and handle and store cleaning products.
  • Teamwork and Communication
    • Work effectively as part of a team, and communicate with colleagues and management.
    • Participate in training and development programs to improve skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • No degree, certificate, or diploma required.
    • Experience an asset.
  • Language and Communication
    • English language proficiency required.
  • Physical Demands
    • Ability to stand for extended periods, and lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • Personal Qualities
    • Client focus, efficient interpersonal skills, reliability, and team player.
    • Ability to multitask, take initiative, and work under pressure.
