Your Opportunity:

The Mental Health Crisis Specialist plays a vital role within a collaborative interdisciplinary team focused on crisis intervention, stabilization, and assessment. This position is dedicated to delivering expert mental health evaluations and consultation services for individuals facing acute psychological challenges. The Specialist collaborates closely with psychiatric emergency personnel and community partners to ensure immediate crisis stabilization and facilitate appropriate post-crisis treatment engagement.

The Mental Health Specialist conducts thorough mental health evaluations aimed at contributing to accurate diagnoses and informing effective treatment strategies. Responsibilities include providing mental health assessments, therapeutic interventions, referrals, and advocacy for clients. The Specialist also contributes to patient care planning and the team's clinical decision-making, considering psychosocial factors, barriers, and dynamics that impact care.

Critical clinical decisions regarding client and community safety are made frequently, requiring the Specialist to act independently and spontaneously. This role is essential in ensuring the well-being of clients and planning for suitable assessment and treatment follow-up.

Description:

As a Mental Health Crisis Specialist, you will engage as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, working collaboratively to address the needs of individuals, families, and communities. Your responsibilities will include conducting intake assessments, clinical interviews, and screenings for clients experiencing addiction and mental health disorders. You will interact with various internal and external stakeholders and collaborate with team members as necessary.

Additionally, there may be opportunities to participate in program development and provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to qualified professionals, including Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have completed one of the following educational programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work with a focus on mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with relevant educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with experience in mental health assessment and crisis intervention, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Candidates must be actively registered or eligible for registration with the appropriate Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with community resources and agencies that support addiction and mental health clients is considered an asset.
