The Recreation Therapist plays a crucial role in fostering a Resident Family Centered Care approach, addressing the diverse and intricate recreational needs of residents and their families within a homely atmosphere.

Role Responsibilities:

As a Senior Recreation Therapist, you will assume a pivotal position in promoting evidence-based therapeutic recreation practices within your designated clinical area. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering clinical leadership to ensure the provision of safe and effective care.
  • Coordinating the assessment, treatment, education, and overall care of residents.
  • Engaging in program development to enhance service delivery, including the creation of protocols, educational materials, and quality improvement strategies.
  • Conducting assessments and managing treatment progress while providing clinical support and consultation.
  • Collaborating with the healthcare team and participating in patient rounds, family meetings, and interdisciplinary discussions.

Essential Qualifications:

To qualify for this role, candidates must possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or Recreation and Leisure Studies.
  • Active or eligible registration with the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
  • A minimum of three years of relevant clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.

Additional Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with residents, families, and staff.

Preferred Experience:

Candidates with the following experience will be favored:

  • Recent experience in a long-term care setting.
  • Experience as a recreation therapist within the last three years.
  • Possession of a Class 4 driver's license for resident outings.
  • Experience managing Dementia Syndrome.
