Position Overview – Securities Regulation Legal Advisor
The Canadian Hispanic Bar Association is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable lawyer to fulfill the role of Securities Regulation Legal Advisor. This position plays a crucial part in overseeing the regulatory framework governing capital markets, ensuring compliance with established laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal counsel on the registration framework in Canada, including National Instrument Registration Requirements and ongoing obligations.
- Address complex legal matters arising during the review of registration applications and recommend appropriate actions regarding exemption requests under relevant legislation.
- Engage with registrants and their legal representatives to resolve suitability and registration-related issues.
- Conduct outreach initiatives with the business sector, contributing to the resolution of legal and business challenges related to registration.
- Play a significant role in the formulation of key policy and legislative initiatives impacting registrants at both provincial and national levels.
- Encourage consistent approaches to registration-related matters across Canada.
- Establish and maintain a robust network of professional relationships with legal practitioners and other stakeholders in a dynamic regulatory landscape.
- Foster productive interactions with the registrant community, enhancing the efficiency of the registration process.
- Promote a results-driven environment where the effects of regulatory activities are evident in terms of investor protection and market confidence.
Qualifications and Skills
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree.
- Membership in good standing with a Canadian Law Society.
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience in securities law or a related field.
- Comprehensive understanding of the securities industry and applicable legislation.
- Proven ability to balance regulatory goals with practical business needs.
- Strong analytical skills with a track record of developing innovative solutions to complex issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in legal research and drafting, including experience with regulatory documents.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience coordinating various aspects of projects and policies with relevant personnel.
This position is integral to the advancement of regulatory practices and the promotion of a diverse legal community.
