About the Unit
Our General Internal Medicine and Cardiology unit accommodates a diverse patient population, addressing a wide range of conditions from uncomplicated pneumonia to complex acute and chronic illnesses. Nurses in this unit have the opportunity to gain specialized knowledge in areas such as respiratory medicine, cardiology, oncology, palliative care, pain management, geriatrics, and wound care.
Responsibilities
- Consistently apply the nursing process to foster confidence in practice and achieve favorable patient outcomes.
- Monitor cardiac activity for patients during transport to and from cardiac procedures.
- Provide comprehensive post-cardiac procedure care, including management of TR bands.
- Conduct ECGs for patients presenting with cardiac symptoms.
- Manage both simple and complex wound care.
- Insert and/or manage various tubes and lines, including NGT, GT, Foley catheters, chest tubes, PICCs, and others.
- Collect blood, urine, sputum, and other specimens for laboratory analysis.
Job Requirements
Mandatory
- Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor's degree in nursing program or equivalent education and experience.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
Preferred
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), with consideration for final-year students.
- Specialty certification in Coronary Care, such as ECG interpretation.
- Previous clinical experience with patients experiencing acute and chronic illnesses.
