Overview:
The Senior Manager plays a crucial role in the formulation and execution of accounting policies and procedures for the organization, as guided by senior leadership. This position requires thorough analysis and evaluation of accounting standards and potential amendments, addressing intricate accounting challenges, and offering expert advice on specialized transactions as necessary. The incumbent must maintain current knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) relevant to their responsibilities and stay informed about significant changes in IFRS.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that critical departments within the organization are informed and adequately prepared for the implications of new and evolving accounting standards. The incumbent will facilitate the direct application of these standards, investigate issues related to specific strategies or transactions, and propose compliance alternatives and recommendations.
- Keep senior management informed about the accounting ramifications of new and revised IFRS standards. The incumbent is expected to identify and investigate issues, explore areas of flexibility, and make recommendations aligned with the organization's priorities.
- Evaluate and provide guidance on the appropriate accounting treatment for specialized proposed transactions. This analysis typically requires comprehensive documentation of the relevant transaction terms, accounting options, and a rationale for recommendations.
- Regularly update and maintain the accounting monograph (i.e., IFRS policies) and implementation guidelines, including user training and implications of new guidelines.
- Actively engage in the development and interpretation of new and proposed accounting standards, including disclosures in financial statements and Management's Discussion and Analysis (MD&A).
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, initiatives, and reviews simultaneously.
- Adept at efficiently researching and comprehending complex materials to produce precise results and present alternatives.
- Expected to implement intricate accounting requirements for designated business lines.
- Possess solid financial acumen along with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work under pressure to meet stringent deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
- Results-driven while being adaptable and flexible in response to changes in the work environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster and maintain relationships within cross-functional teams.
- A collaborative team player willing to take on additional projects and responsibilities to achieve collective objectives.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn various reporting tools to extract and present information from the organization's accounting records.
