Role Overview:
The Risk Management Centre of Excellence (CoE) serves as a vital first line of defense, partnering with Canadian leadership to achieve our Client for Life objectives. We provide a thorough understanding of operational risk and assist in designing effective strategies to manage risk across the organization.
In collaboration with Canadian leadership, Business Unit Risk Officers, and Risk and Compliance stakeholders, we assess operational risks, enhance control frameworks, educate teams on risk management, and ensure compliance with risk policies. Our goal is to empower the business to evolve while keeping risk within acceptable limits.
The team’s scope is extensive, serving all business areas, including Group Benefits, Group Retirement Services, Client Experience Office, and Individual Insurance and Wealth. As an Operational Risk Consultant, reporting to the Manager of Operational Risk, you will play a crucial role in supporting risk initiatives across various portfolios in Canada, acting as a key liaison for execution managers and stakeholders in identifying, assessing, and managing operational risks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate risk and control effectiveness within assigned portfolios, identifying areas for improvement in risk management.
- Create reporting dashboards for risk issues and related activities for Business Unit leadership.
- Organize and facilitate various risk committees and forums.
- Assist in risk assessments to evaluate exposures, identify internal control weaknesses, and enhance the control environment.
- Support the implementation of new or revised risk and compliance requirements, assessing their impact on assigned business areas.
- Provide expert risk consulting and support risk reviews for significant business projects and process changes.
- Recommend effective control designs and best practices in operational risk management.
- Monitor and track the status of risk issues and activities within the portfolio scorecard.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business or a related field.
- 3 – 5 years of experience in risk management, regulatory compliance, or internal audit; experience in the financial or insurance sector is advantageous.
- Familiarity with risk management practices, including assessment, monitoring, and control design.
- Experience in process mapping and identifying process risks and controls.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in presenting to business partners.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to resolve problems collaboratively.
- Proactive and self-motivated, capable of managing unstructured tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in risk management or related fields (e.g., compliance, process improvement).
- Exposure to project, program, or portfolio management.
- Certification in risk management or process improvement.
