Job Summary

The Pharmacy Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Pharmacist in the technical aspects of prescription filling and administrative duties. This position requires a team player who can assist in all aspects of Pharmacy Operations, providing superior customer service and contributing to the delivery of exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prescription Processing
    • Receive prescriptions from patients, ensuring compliance with provincial legal and regulatory conditions.
    • Assess prescriptions for completeness, including patient information and prescriber details.
    • Perform computer functions as directed by the Pharmacist, including data entry, price checks, and patient information updates.
  • Prescription Filling
    • Fulfill prescriptions under the supervision of the Pharmacist, selecting appropriate products and performing accuracy checks.
    • Label and organize prescriptions for pharmacist checking, ensuring timely and accurate dispensing.
  • Inventory Management
    • Maintain inventory control, assisting the Pharmacist in managing stock levels of drugs and supplies.
    • Check for and pull expired medications, ensuring a safe and efficient pharmacy environment.
  • Clerical and Administrative Support
    • File prescriptions, invoices, reports, and correspondence, providing administrative support as needed.
    • Assist with OTC operations, including ordering, stocking, and cashier duties.
Requirements
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Previous experience in a pharmacy or retail environment an asset.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Post-secondary education in a related field, such as pharmacy technology or healthcare.
    • Previous experience working in a team environment, with excellent communication and customer service skills.
