Job Summary
The Research Animal Technician is a key member of the BC Cancer Research Centre team, responsible for supervising designated staff and assisting in daily animal care operations. This role requires a strong background in laboratory work, surgical procedures, and animal health monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and train staff on animal care procedures, including health monitoring and colony management.
- Perform surgeries and laboratory techniques, such as blood collection, surgical implantations, and polymerase chain reaction analysis.
- Develop and implement animal care standard operating procedures.
- Maintain daily care of laboratory mice, including food and water levels and health monitoring.
Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized program in Animal Health or Veterinary Technology, or equivalent education and experience.
- 5+ years of recent related experience in a research laboratory, including 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Current knowledge of animal care regulations and programs.
