As a Software Development Manager, you will be primarily responsible for leading a software development team, managing some modules of the watsonx Code Assistant Development team, and delivering new features, improvements, and business value to our clients. This role requires strong leadership and change management skills, the ability to lead high-performing teams, and a general knowledge of analytics. The ideal candidate will have an established background in software development, strong technical ability, project management expertise, motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment, as well as being client-focused and passionate about new technology, agile, and DevOps practices.

Your role and responsibilities

The responsibilities will include:

1. Hire and develop high-performing technical talent with a particular focus on delivering value.
2. Drive the team to establish comprehensive development plans and innovative solutions to problems/challenges that meet desired outcomes and maintain integrity to client commitments.
3. Ensure end-to-end development activities are properly sized, planned, and tracked to meet delivery expectations supporting focus areas such as:

1. Ensure developed plans (including dependencies, risk mitigations) are interlocked internally and across functional teams & stakeholders.
2. Allocate and balance resources across multiple projects to meet the needs of business priorities.
3. Provide management oversight to a number of activities running in parallel, address issues/concerns with speed, and enable corrective actions.
4. Report on development status to program stakeholders as needed.

5. Perform other duties as required.

Required technical and professional expertise

- 6+ years of experience.
- Experience in building and managing development teams.
- Experience with project management, planning, tracking, stakeholder management, conflict resolution, and prioritization.
- Strong software development background with prior experience in any modern programming language like GO, NodeJS, Javascript, Python, including software design and architecture.
- Thorough understanding of the agile development process.
- Excellent people management and communication skills.
- Experience with Source Control Management (i.e., Git).
- Fluent in written and spoken English.

Preferred technical and professional experience

- Deep curiosity about the latest AI research and applications.
- Experience with ML models evaluation techniques, including Large Language Models (LLMs) is a plus.
- Comprehensive understanding and hands-on mastery of containerized solutions including Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift is a plus.
- Experience in architecting, deploying, and managing applications in cloud or hybrid infrastructures is a plus.
