Associate Operator
As an Associate Operator, you will operate assigned equipment or plant areas, report operational activities, and help maintain safe, reliable, and optimal plant performance. You will collaborate with shift team members to resolve unplanned events, mentor junior operators, and pursue continuous improvement opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Follow operating discipline policies, procedures, and standards to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Operate and field‑check process equipment, monitor key metrics, and make decisions to maintain desired rates and conditions.
- Perform scheduled and ad‑hoc tasks related to resolving unplanned events.
- Coordinate with shift teammates to balance workload and meet deadlines.
- Conduct effective shift relief, including communication and handoff.
- Maintain qualifications, complete training goals, and address skill gaps.
- Mentor and train new and existing personnel on operations and troubleshooting.
- Execute immediate response activities as assigned.
- Initiate preliminary investigations and participate in root‑cause investigations.
- Track and use plant metrics to optimize operations and identify improvement opportunities.
- Perform autonomous maintenance (minor repairs/pre‑ventative maintenance) following company policies.
Your Skills
- Communication – Convey information clearly to ensure understanding and collaboration.
- Mechanical Principles – Apply mechanical concepts to analyze and solve problems.
- Chemical Hazards – Identify and manage chemical risk.
- Process Flow Diagrams – Interpret and use PFDs to understand operations.
- Adaptability – Adjust effectively to changing conditions and priorities.
- System Procedures – Follow established protocols for safety and efficiency.
- Mechanical Aptitude – Demonstrate practical skills with mechanical equipment.
- Process Safety – Implement measures to prevent accidents.
- Detail‑Oriented – Maintain accuracy and precision in tasks.
- Emergency Procedures – Respond quickly to emergencies.
- Chemical Processes – Understand chemical reactions in production.
- Time Management – Prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maximize productivity.
- Risk Awareness – Recognize hazards and minimize risks.
Qualifications
- Technical diploma/trade certificate or a 4th‑class power engineering certification plus a high school diploma or GED.
- Minimum one year of relevant industrial experience in chemical or related environment.
- Ability to work a 12‑hour rotating shift schedule; overtime may be required.
- Capability to wear a full face respirator.
- Capacity to work safely in a plant environment, meet physical demands, work at elevated heights, and use PPE.
- Preferred: forklift and other vehicle operation.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada; no visa sponsorship provided.

- Position located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
- Dow does not offer relocation or reimbursement for travel to/from interviews. Applicants located outside the area are responsible for all associated costs.
