The inaugural Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of WellFort’s leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial operations and ensuring long-term organizational sustainability. Reporting to the CEO, the CFO will serve as the financial strategist and advisor to the CEO, Board, and senior leaders, overseeing all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, risk management, financial reporting, and long-term financial planning. This role will also lead the finance team, be responsible for financial strategic planning, support funding reporting, and conduct in-depth financial analysis to ensure operational excellence and guide future growth.

Specific Responsibilities

- Provide direction and mentorship to the finance team, ensuring effective day-to-day operations and a culture of accountability.

- Foster capacity building, training, and mentorship to strengthen internal financial knowledge across departments.

- Drive systems innovation including process improvement, automation, and emerging technologies

- Lead financial forecasting, analysis, and budgeting processes.

- Operationalize strategic goals and initiatives of WellFort

- Lead the establishment of program goals and objectives and set service priorities based on these goals and be accountable to an Annual Business Plan for the portfolio and the organization

- Drive fund diversification through new revenue models, innovative public-private partnerships, and grants

- Build multi-year financial models that anticipate growth and evolving funding models.

- Works collaboratively with other functions to ensure key operating model deliverables are aligned with organizational initiatives, and to ensure data & technology enablers are in place to achieve financial goals of the organization

- Conduct deep-dive analyses to support effective financial planning, including forecasting to identify root causes and corrective actions.

- Develop financial recovery plans in collaboration with leadership, including cost containment and revenue recovery strategies.

- Create forward-looking financial models that position the organization for stability and growth.

- Provide scenario planning and risk assessments to guide decision-making.

- Oversee preparation of all program reporting requested by funder, as well as internal monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

- Present financial reports, variance analyses, and projections to the CEO and Board of Directors.

- Ensure transparent and accurate reporting for both internal and external stakeholders.

- Ensure compliance with funding agreements, government regulations, and internal controls.

- Attend audit committee meetings and Finance of Committee of the Board meetings and serve as an advisor to the CEO and the committee

- Develop and strengthen financial policies to mitigate risk and increase accountability.

Reporting

- Ensure financial coding and reporting to meet all funder obligations.

- Oversee reliable and accountable financial reporting for all programs and initiatives across the organization

Board & Funder Relations

- Serve as the key financial advisor to the CEO on all financial matters

- Communicate complex financial information clearly to provincial and regional funders.

- Build strong, transparent, trusted relationships with funders and community partners.

- Strong financial acumen and strategic planning skills.

- Proven leadership and effective team management abilities.

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with capacity for retrospective analysis and forward planning.

- Clear and confident communication skills (written and verbal).

- Collaborative approach with internal and external partners.

- Respect and understanding of equity deserving communities.

- CPA designation required (CA, CMA, CGA, or equivalent).

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Master’s degree an asset).

- 7–10 years of progressive senior financial leadership experience, ideally in non-profit or housing-related organizations.

- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organization specifically in community healthcare setting.

- Experience in a public sector setting in an organization, preferably with Ministry of Health and Ontario Health funding and Ontario Health Care Reporting (OHRS) guidelines

- Demonstrated experience with financial recovery planning and long-term forecasting.

- Experience with risk management, audits, and strategic financial planning.

- Proficiency with Great Plains, FRxReporter, ADP WorkforceNow

- Experience working with community healthcare organizations or marginalized communities is an asset.
