Project Leader – Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance

Type of position: full-time (40 hours per week), permanent employee
Salary: $21.50-$22.50 per hour, commensurate with experience
Location: Office in downtown Moncton with local fieldwork. Work location and schedule are flexible when work responsibilities allow

About us: The Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance (PWA) is a registered environmental charity that restores and protects the ecological services of the water systems that flow into the Shepody Bay through science-based research, action, and public outreach. About the position: We are seeking a motivated Project Leader to join our team and play a key role in coordinating and implementing projects related to habitat assessment, monitoring and restoration, environmental education, and public outreach.

Responsibilities

- Field Work

- Field work in a variety of weather conditions (rain, heat, cold) and terrain (forest, wetland, streams) (e.g., physical ecosystem restoration work such as debris removal, outflow chute installation, tree planting, green infrastructure installation; water quality monitoring using a variety of scientific field and lab equipment; invasive species monitoring and remediation; fish habitat and watercourse connectivity assessments; native plant propagation and planting; etc.)

- Equipment maintenance

- Scientific data entry on field sheets and on the computer

- Education and Outreach

- Participate in the creation and delivery of education and outreach materials and actions in accordance with communications plans and PWA branding document

- Seek out and host tables, events, and opportunities for presentations to promote opportunities to get involved with the PWA and increase public education on environmental topics relevant to our watercourses

- Project Coordination

- Project planning, logistics, and implementation

- Responsible for regular communication with the Project Manager or other designated staff to approve project expenses, update on project activities, and address any needs

- Proposal-writing; project reporting to funders with whom the PWA holds contractual agreements, ensure deliverables are being met in a timely manner and in accordance with any agreements and the organizational policies

- Coordination with Project Assistants, project consultants, and contractors

- Assistance in Human Resource matters relating to interviewing, hiring, training, leading, and performance evaluations for Project Assistants/Interns

- Program delivery ensuring that appropriate scientific rigor is reflected in all activities

- Keep all documents and workplans up-to-date and organized

- Project tracking and report writing

- Other

- Adherence to all PWA policies

- Mandatory participation in the PWA’s health and safety program (in conjunction with the NB Occupation Health and Safety Act) as directed by the Project Manager

- Other duties as required

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

- A post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in a relevant field such as environmental science, biology, or natural resource management, or equivalent work experience.
- Environmental monitoring certificates are an asset.

Experience Required:

- At least one year paid work with community-based/non-profit organizations and/or delivering scientific projects
- Experience with scientific monitoring and field work (observations, data collection, reports)

Skills/Abilities:

- Responsible, accountable, reliable, and efficient
- Organized and able to meet project objectives within deadlines and budgets
- Able to work both independently and as a collaborative team member
- Strong communication skills in English; fluency in French is considered an asset
- Comfort and familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 and Google Workspace
- Experience with GIS and AutoCad
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, solve problems, and resolve inter-personal conflicts
- Data management/analysis abilities
- Eagerness to grow and learn
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to drive locally on your own; having your own vehicle is an asset (mileage is reimbursed)
