Job Overview

The FinOps Engineer/Practitioner is responsible for implementing and operating cloud financial management (FinOps) practices with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure. This role collaborates with engineering, finance, and product teams to drive cost optimization, create transparency, and embed financial accountability into cloud operations.

The FinOps Engineer will leverage:

- Azure DevOps for workflow management
- Grafana for dashboards
- Python for ETL, automation, and data analysis

Key Responsibilities

- Cost Optimization: Analyze Azure cloud usage and spend to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities (rightsizing, reservations, waste elimination).
- Data Engineering: Build and maintain ETL pipelines using Python to collect, transform, and aggregate Azure cost and usage data.
- Dashboarding & Reporting: Develop and maintain Grafana dashboards for actionable insights into cloud spend and usage trends.
- Backlog Contribution: Collaborate with the FinOps Product Owner to define, estimate, and deliver backlog items in Azure DevOps.
- Automation: Automate routine FinOps tasks (tagging enforcement, anomaly detection, cost allocations).
- Collaboration: Partner with engineering, finance, and procurement teams for budgeting, forecasting, and chargeback processes.
- Documentation: Maintain documentation for FinOps processes, tools, and best practices.
- Education: Advocate for FinOps best practices across the organization.
- Governance & Compliance: Support policy enforcement to ensure compliance with organizational standards.

Qualifications

Education:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, or related field
- Certifications such as FinOps Certified Practitioner or Microsoft Azure certifications are a plus

Experience:

- 2+ years in cloud engineering, DevOps, or cloud financial management roles
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure
- Hands-on coding skills are required for this position.

Skills:

- Strong knowledge of Azure services, billing, and cost management
- Proficiency in Python for data processing, automation, and scripting
- Experience building dashboards in Grafana
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps for backlog/workflow management
- Solid understanding of cloud cost optimization strategies and tools
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Additional skills in Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Parquet are a plus
