Systems Analyst I

Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Information Architecture, this systems role will maintain a portfolio of applications and services which support small user groups at CNC. The Systems Analyst I will take part in the evaluation, planning, implementation, configuration, management, maintenance, and support of the software systems in their portfolio. Working closely with the ITS Service Desk team, the Systems Analyst I will also act as a point of escalation for systems related incidents and will assist with their prioritization and resolution while collaborating with the other Systems roles where appropriate.
Specific Duties
- Perform software installations, updates, testing, debugging, performance tuning, backups, and monitoring while following best practices and minimizing downtime
- Execute test plans for new hardware and software systems to ensure functionality meets specifications
- Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of server hardware
- Evaluate vendor products and provide purchase recommendations to management
- Maintain catalog of IT supported software, working to ensure accuracy of application ownership, business value, and other supporting information
- Act as a point of escalation for application issues encountered by front-line IT support staff
- Create, maintain, and follow technical documentation
- Create images based on provided requirements for use with image deployment tools
- Perform pre‑defined maintenance actions on Identity and Access Management technology infrastructure
- Leverage industry standard security practices to secure information systems and applications
- Troubleshoot simple network issues using tools such as nslookup, ping, tracert, and ipconfig
- Create simple data visualizations to assist with communicating information to decision makers
- Contribute to and accomplish the vision, mission, and goals of the College and support the aspirations and needs of learners
- Promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
- Recognized two (2) year diploma in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Electronics Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of one‑year current experience working with server‑based applications and services, virtualized servers, desktops, and identity management systems
- Experience in post‑secondary education or the public sector is preferred
- Ability to test newly implemented solutions and provide constructive feedback
- Ability to modify and execute basic shell scripts such as batch files and PowerShell to automate administrative tasks
- Ability to read, understand, and run pre‑defined SQL scripts to create or modify databases
- Ability to collect clear, accurate and thorough system requirements
- Monitoring and maintenance activities such as administrator and service account setup, technical support, and troubleshooting for applications used by a small group of users
- Use of role‑based access controls for implementation of access management authentication, entitlements, data security, and privacy
- Understanding of backup software and strategies (Veeam, Avamar, etc.)
- Experience with Storage Area Network (SAN) management
- Understanding of basic virtual machine approaches and hardware abstraction methodologies
- Experience with Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) and Microsoft Intune image provisioning and management
- Experience with drive encryption tools such as BitLocker
- Ability to investigate and record operational requirements and problems
- Ability to apply risk management practices
- Ability to follow pre‑defined procedures to create, update and maintain assets in asset tracking systems
- Demonstrated commitment to service excellence and teamwork
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals or departments
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
