In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.2% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:

• 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays

• 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:

• $3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays

• $2.75 per hour for evenings

The Lakeland District is looking to hire motivated and hardworking individuals with janitorial and grounds keeping skills to fill the Cabin Maintenance Worker position at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park.

The work performed must meet required quality standards, be reflective of visitor needs and organizational priorities, comply with applicable divisional and departmental guidelines and policies, and be completed in accordance with OHS policies and regulations.

As a Cabin Maintenance Worker you will:

Administrative Duties

• Represent Alberta Parks in a professional manner, wearing uniform in accordance with the uniform policy.

• Familiarity and application of all pertinent policies, directives, procedures and protocols.

Business Operations (Registration Booth)

• Acquire understanding and ability to use all functions of the Shop.AlbertaParks.ca system to register campers, process changes, cancel reservations, complete check-outs, and process payments or refunds.

• Proficiency with ASPIRA software to operate cash register and point of sale machine, ensuring floats and cash outs are accurate and balanced.

• Ensuring building security through effective opening and closing tasks/procedures, ensuring facilities are kept clean, organized, secure, and safe at all times; reporting maintenance issues immediately.

• Ensure hours of operation are communicated to visitors and facility is open during scheduled hours.

• Retail sales of products and services including firewood, concession items, ice and rentals (where applicable).

• Responsible for inventory management and control – restocking of merchandise and informing supervisor of any low stock items.

Customer Service and Communication

• Provide exceptional customer service as the first point of contact for campers – greet and welcome all visitors in a friendly, approachable, and professional manner.

• Strong communication skills when working with visitors and coworkers, and an ability to interact in a friendly, informative, diplomatic and professional manner.

• Provides accurate, concise and relevant information to park users regarding park facilities, services, activities, tours, directives, policies and regulations, as well as regional tourism opportunities and services.

• Receives, responds and manages all customer service emergencies, issues, complaints, and concerns in a professional manner, including referrals to other departments as required.

• Assisting and working closely with other parks program streams as required to ensure operational and visitor needs are met (Park Rangers, Conservation Officers, Maintenance, Visitor Engagement and other Visitor Services Staff).

• Identifies and reports any issues or concerns with the reservation system, tills, POS, equipment, supplies, etc. to supervisor.

• Become a park specialist with detailed knowledge of all park areas, natural/cultural history, programs, and conditions (trails, water quality, weather, etc.) to assist the public with current information.

Janitorial/Maintenance Operations

• Daily cleaning and grounds maintenance for park facilities, such as washrooms, outhouses, comfort cabins, community facility, and tipis.

• General cleaning includes dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, window washing, sanitizing and disinfecting all surfaces/appliances.

• General landscaping, weeding, grass cutting, garbage collection and litter pickup.

• Light equipment operation (hand tools, power tools, lawnmowers, trimmers, off-highway vehicles, and other specialty equipment as required).

• Basic building maintenance tasks and painting (where applicable).

• Responding to public concerns and complaints regarding facility maintenance issues.

Occupational Health and Safety

• Become familiar with all pertinent OH&S policies, procedures and protocols.

• Apply OH&S guidelines and policies in all areas of work.

Qualifications

Education and Experience required:

• Some high school with a preference for some janitorial and/or housekeeping experience.

Prior to employment, successful candidates will require proof of:

• Valid Criminal Record Check

• Valid Class 5 Driver's License

• Valid Defensive Driving Certificate

• Valid Driver's Abstract

• Valid First Aid/CPR-C Certificate.

Assets to the role include the following:

• Strong customer service skills with good English language proficiency.

• Outgoing, friendly personality that enjoys working with the general public in a team atmosphere.

• Experience with point of sales machines, retail, cash handling and/or customer service.

• Knowledge of and experience in computer use and a variety of computer software, including but not limited to: Excel, Outlook, Word, Publisher.

• Knowledge of Alberta Parks and direct experience with Shop.AlbertaParks.ca.

• Familiarity with campground operations, park regulations, campground etiquette and surrounding park amenities.

• Familiarity with Janitorial and/or housekeeping.

• Good organizational and time management skills.

• Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.

• Independent problem solving and adaptability.

• Ability to operate light equipment and various tools.

• This is a seasonal wage opportunity starting at the beginning of May and going until September 2025.

• Hours of work will consist of 40 hour workweeks with 8 hour shifts. This position will be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays throughout the summer.

• Final candidates will be required to have Defensive Driving and First Aid/CPR-C Certificate prior to commencement.
