Grow your career under the northern lights If you welcome a different pace of life and look for the chance to use the full scope of your clinical practice, EHS in Northern Alberta could be the right fit for you. Gain experience in our diverse northern landscape, surrounded by expansive prairie fields, bustling urban centers, lush wetlands, boreal forests, and sprawling mountain passes. Discover hidden gems, stunning scenery, and friendly people as you explore our enormous backyard in all seasons. Emergency Health Services - Alberta can offer you a career that fits your lifestyle and numerous opportunities for professional growth and development. Joining EHS means becoming a part of an exceptional team. In addition to competitive compensation and flexible benefits, EHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Where you will be stationed: Peace River station is a brand new facility located beside the Peace River Community Health Centre. Peace River is located on the banks of the mighty Peace River; 2 hours Northeast of Grande Prairie, under 3 hours to Slave Lake and 5 hours North of Edmonton. This could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for to live, work, and play in northern Alberta. See what EHS has to offer you. New graduates are welcome to apply. As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation. You may treat patients by administering minor medications, basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and semi-automated defibrillation. You may also lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as non-emergent transport (NET), are properly stocked and equipped. The working environment for a PCP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will need to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g. backcountry) with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. The working conditions for a PCP are also physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105lbs, while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must be able to endure frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods. Additionally, you must stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, side-carry up to 20lbs in each hand and assume awkward positions. Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support CPR certification. Must hold or be able to obtain a valid class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent and a five (5) year driver abstract current within six (6) months with no more than six (6) demerits prior to commencing work. Proof of the successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via the certificate provided by the Lifemark organization for those who do not already hold a clinical position within AHS EMS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP and Community Paramedic). Your F.A.R.E. test must be completed no more than six (6) months prior to the date of your application. Alberta Health Services EMS may verify results with Lifemark to ensure the candidate has successfully completed the test. Please contact Lifemark at www.lifemark.ca/alberta-health-services to find more information on the F.A.R.E. test and how to book your evaluation. Candidates must be qualified to perform full operational duties as of start date. As required. Preference is given to those with previous EHS experience in a metro, suburban, rural, or interfacility environment and in other areas of Health Care and Public Safety. Completion of additional post-secondary programs is considered an asset and will be considered during the selection process. Applicants must provide proof of completion of post-secondary education credentials for them to be considered during the selection process.
