The goal is to provide effective and safe pain management for patients undergoing procedures. The APS team consists of nurse practitioner and physicians who have acquired advanced training and have expertise in pain control and pain management. The APS NP will work closely with an interdisciplinary team across the organization to support the unique care needs of our patients, with a heavy focus on surgical post-operative patients. In addition, the APS NP plays a vital corporate role in supporting education and collaboration within the professional practice office regarding the acute pain service. What you'll be doing:* As a leader, the NP plays a critical role in improving practice standards, advancing the scope of acute pain service, and supporting the development of team members within the Surgical Program.* The NP works both independently and collaboratively with physicians, healthcare teams, patients, and families, ensuring care is evidence-informed and aligns with professional, ethical, and legal standards.* The NP contributes to the education of patients, families, and health professionals by sharing knowledge about acute pain service, health promotion, and post-op recovery strategies.* The NP is involved in the implementation and evaluation of research to improve patient outcomes, pain management treatment strategies, and overall care delivery models* Utilize advanced clinical skills to assess, plan, and facilitate care for surgical patients, with a focus on managing patients with requiring advanced pain management therapies* Perform comprehensive health assessments and complete focused physical examinations, identifying normal and abnormal findings relevant to patient presentations.* Use diagnostic reasoning to order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., CT scans, X-rays, pulmonary function tests), establishing medical diagnoses* Collaborate with patients and families to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary plan of care, coordinating resources for optimal patient outcomes* Performs specialty-specific diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in accordance with scope of practice, approved medical directives (where applicable) and established practice guidelines.* Maintain accurate and thorough documentation, including patient consult notes and progress notes on the electronic medical record (EMR), ensuring clear and comprehensive records for the health team* Provide leadership in developing educational programs focused on acute pain service, ensuring that the content is relevant, and evidence based.* Offer educational opportunities to nursing, medical, and allied health staff in collaboration with the Nurse Educator, aimed at enhancing specialized knowledge and skills in acute pain service* Mentor and preceptor nursing and interdisciplinary students, providing guidance and evaluating their clinical performance* Engage with academic institutions to participate in joint research and educational projects, promoting collaboration between clinical practice and academia to advance acute pain service care* Support the development, implementation and evaluation of quality management programs / initiatives, care delivery models, practice standard / guidelines / policies and procedures and associated health outcomes and resource utilization, in collaboration with the leadership teams* Demonstrate clinical leadership as a change agent through knowledge translation and dissemination, including formal and informal presentations, publications, and quality improvement projects* Collaborate with staff physicians or independently engage in the research process, including conducting, analyzing, collecting, documenting, interpreting, and implementing research findings to improve pain management care* Performs other duties consistent with the job classification, as requiredWhat you bring:* Master of Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing & Nurse Practitioner program completion required.* Current registration with the College of Nurses as RN in the Extended Class (RN-EC) and Nurse Practitioner (Adult or Primary Health Care) required* Critical care certification preferred* Basic Cardio Life Saving (BCLS) certification required* Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required* Active membership in the Canadian Nurses Association and Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario or other relevant professional organizations preferred* Minimum three (3) years of recent experience as a Nurse Practitioner within acute pain service or surgical setting strongly preferred* Minimum five (5) years of recent and relevant experience as a Registered Nurse within critical care or a surgical setting required* Proven experience and training in pain management – including experience working with PCA, epidural, PCEA, intrathecal, and regional block management required* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with physicians and the inter-professional team.* Highly developed assessment, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.* Strong oral, written, and presentation skills, including proficiency in healthcare information systems.* Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing demands.* Commitment to patient-centered care and exceptional customer service.* Experience in adult education, including mentoring students.* Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal* Demonstrated problem assessment skills* Demonstrated
