Job ID: 3133832 | Umbra Software Oy - K90

Passionate about neural networks and curious about camera algorithms for imaging systems? Join our team in developing AI imaging algorithms for Ring high‑end products.

As an AI Algorithm Engineer you will work alongside software developers, IQ engineers, architects and various stakeholders across sites. Successful solutions enable Ring cameras to deliver super‑charged image processing, capturing every moment with improved clarity and vibrant color, day or night.

In this role you will integrate AI models with camera systems—from sensor data to imaging algorithms—leveraging AI to improve pixel‑level image quality, enhance low‑light performance, reduce noise and optimize the imaging pipeline. You will design algorithms and deploy them into Ring’s future products, ensuring they run on embedded hardware.

This position demands strong machine learning and signal‑processing skills, proven competence in AI algorithm development, and the ability to innovate AI solutions that integrate seamlessly with imaging algorithms. You should have genuine interest in adopting the latest tools for engineering, software development and testing, as well as monitoring industry advances to apply state‑of‑the‑art techniques.

Key Job Responsibilities

- Develop new AI‑based camera algorithms.
- Design solutions that are feasible for embedded deployment.
- Maintain productization goals at all times.
- Innovate image‑processing solutions and communicate with cross‑functional teams.
- Prototype and deploy AI denoising, HDR, and low‑light algorithms for device and cloud platforms.

About the Team

Based in Tampere, our team focuses on cameras and related peripherals, forming the core of the Ring camera user experience. We are a growing center of IQ firmware excellence, with members ranging from junior to senior engineers, some located in Cambridge. Our expertise in imaging systems is extensive, and you will become part of this vibrant ecosystem.

Basic Qualifications

- MSc or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Strong machine learning and deep learning fundamentals.
- Experience with algorithm design and deployment into resource‑constrained systems.
- Proficiency in Python for ML development and prototyping.
- Experience in AI algorithm development and productization, preferably for camera systems.
- Strong understanding of image signal processing and imaging algorithms.
- Experience with continuous integration, version control (Git), and unit testing.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to document and present ideas and designs.
- Embrace and use latest AI tools and techniques for fast development.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with model optimization techniques (quantization, pruning, compression).
- Experience with AI accelerators and inference engines (TensorRT, ONNX Runtime, ExecuTorch, etc.).
- Understanding of embedded systems constraints.
- Knowledge of camera systems and imaging pipelines.
- Proficiency in C++ for algorithm implementation.
- Experience with CMake and build systems.
- Experience in designing APIs, libraries, and highly maintainable components.
- Publications or contributions to AI/ML open source projects.
