Located in St. Albert, Alberta, and reporting to the CEO and Board of Directors, this full-time position provides auditing, compliance monitoring, direction and support to Canada ICI Capital Corporation (Canada ICI). The primary responsibility is to carry out internal audit activities in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements (RECA, FSCO, MSC, FINTRAC, OSFI, anti-money laundering, etc.) as well as internal policies and procedures. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for determining the compliance requirements and gaps in operations and developing process maps and training programs to address deficiencies. Once audit policies and procedures are in place, this position is responsible for monitoring adherence to the policies and procedures and reporting on any deviations from the policies.

Education and Skills

- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or Accounting.
- 5+ years of internal audit and/or risk management experience.
- Possess one or more of the following designations:

- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

- Experience in managing a team is an asset.
- Public accounting audit experience is an asset.
- AML, FINTRAC, OSFI & SOX compliance experience is an asset.
- Real estate market/Trust auditing experience is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of financial and managerial control systems, processes and risk-based procedures which includes planning, testing and sampling methods.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including O365, Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Proven organizational skills and demonstrates the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Highly organized and the ability to work independently and with a team in an open-plan office.
- Strong communication skills, verbal & written coupled with strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Self-motivated and self-driven.

Responsibilities

- Examine the company's preparedness and control environment to determine whether the Company's system of controls effectively mitigates risk and recommend changes where appropriate.
- Ensure business, functional units and employees comply with financial and regulatory requirements as well as internal policies and procedures.
- Support the leadership team to ensure the firm's employees are provided with high quality, accurate and timely compliance direction, advice, support and service.
- Develop a risk-based audit program including policies & procedures and conduct training with employees regarding their compliance responsibilities and requirements.
- Monitor and ensure all employees are in compliance and up to date with their provincial licensing requirements.
- Report all risk management issues and internal control deficiencies identified and provide recommendations for improving the organization's internal control process.
- Monitor and audit the Company's proprietary loan servicing software and ensure the system is being used effectively and appropriately as a system of record.
- Monitor and audit all other internal systems in place within the company to ensure proper security and to identify any weaknesses and recommend improvements.
- Contribute to the safeguarding of Company assets by ensuring appropriate internal controls are in place and operating effectively.
- Monitor and ensure the company's compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) regulations.
- Ensure the Company is in compliance with the Office of Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) requirements, if applicable.
- Review regulatory and legislative changes and ensure Canada ICI's policies and procedures are in compliance with new regulations and legislation.
- Review all Canada ICI internal policies and procedures to ensure internal controls are being communicated and applied correctly.
- Aide in the preparation of Canada ICI extensive list of audits: Trust, Financial Statement, AML and 3416 audits, if applicable.
- Review contracts and agreements which Canada ICI is involved in or has executed to ensure that no terms in the agreement are in breach or violated.
- Develop a plan and process to analyze and implement audit recommendations and maintain compliance.
- Minimize the risk of reputational damage, regulatory sanction and discipline, client complaints and civil litigation.
- Identify, investigate and resolve (or escalate), in an appropriate and timely manner, any actual or potential violations of Company policy, regulations or legislation.
- Maintain a high level of awareness of compliance-related changes and developments in the commercial mortgage industry through review of publications, participation in industry associations, employee development initiatives, etc.
- Review and investigate Investor agreements to identify any shortfalls within Investor reporting requirements.
- Identify any shortfalls within Investor reporting, development policies and procedures to ensure we are in line with all Investor requirements and Agreements, ongoing monitoring.
- Perform other duties as required.
