Engineering Manager

As the Engineering Manager, you will be a key leader responsible for overseeing the design, development, and optimization of cutting-edge industrial shredding equipment. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to lead a team of talented engineers. The ideal candidate will contribute to product innovation, process improvement, and ensure the successful execution of engineering projects. We anticipate the Engineering Manager will spend time working on projects approximately 30% of their time.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Team Leadership:
1. Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of engineers to achieve project goals and meet deadlines.
2. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging continuous learning and skill development.
Project Management:
1. Oversee the entire product development lifecycle from concept to production, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality assurance, and marketing to achieve project milestones.
Technical Expertise:
1. Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team in the design and improvement of industrial shredders. Provide approval of project specific special features.
2. Conduct thorough analysis of engineering designs, identifying areas for optimization and innovation.
3. Update and complete the Industrial Shredder Selector Tool.
4. Ensure Shred-Tech designs conform to all applicable International & North American standards and certifications.
5. Work closely with compliance teams to adhere to safety, environmental, and industry-specific regulations.
6. Provide technical support to Service, Sales, Quality, and Production.
Process Optimization:
1. Implement efficient engineering processes and workflows to enhance productivity and reduce time-to-market, including BOM's, drawings, Engineering Change Management (ECO's), and product manuals.
2. Identify and implement improvements in existing products and processes, maintaining a focus on quality and cost-effectiveness.
3. Establish and implement Engineering and Product Standards consistent with Shred-Tech objectives.
Product Innovation:
1. Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor products to drive innovation in industrial shredder design.
2. Collaborate with the Product Manager to introduce new features and functionalities.
3. Manage technical aspects of New Product Development.
Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Engineering and the leadership team at Shred-Tech.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: University Degree (P. Eng.) in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience:
1. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in engineering in a custom-engineered, industrial equipment environment with at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership role.
2. Strategic thinking with the ability to align engineering efforts with business goals.
3. Experience working with end-to-end material conveyance systems an asset.
4. Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex engineering projects.
Specific Skills, Ability, and Knowledge:
1. In-depth experience in industrial equipment, conveyance systems, hydraulics, and electrical design.
2. Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
3. Experience in CAD design, SolidWorks 3D preferred.
4. Experience in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
5. Experience in an integrated ERP system environment, Epicor preferred.
6. Excellent leadership skills and the ability to foster a positive working environment.
7. Strong management skills – problem solving & decision-making to overcome technical challenges.
8. Demonstrated planning, organizing, and change management experience and abilities.
9. Demonstrates professional communication skills in dealing with customers, suppliers, and business partners.
10. Able to think creatively and drive innovation in product design and engineering processes.
11. Excellent time management skills.
12. Ability to multi-task and prioritize with strong organizational skills.
13. A collaborative mindset with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
14. Experience collaborating with other departments such as marketing, sales, and production.
15. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
16. Attention to detail.
17. Willingness to engage in customer issues and troubleshoot as needed to drive resolution.
18. Act with a sense of urgency when dealing with customers.
