ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY The Senior Cost Analyst ensures accurate and consistent product costing, manufacturing costs and inventory valuation across all manufacturing operations. The role owns the standard costing framework and provides visibility into manufacturing cost performance, inventory, productivity and variances. Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain and FP&A, the Senior Cost Accounting Analyst provides cost inputs for planning and forecasting while maintaining ownership of cost accounting policies, processes and controls. The role also supports new product introductions, engineering changes and cost-reduction initiatives through product costing and financial analysis. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING Cost Accounting & Standard Costing
- Develop, maintain and continuously improve standard costing methodologies for materials, direct labor, manufacturing overhead and production processes.
- Establish and maintain appropriate labor and overhead rates and allocation methodologies.
- Coordinate the annual standard-cost update and ongoing cost updates resulting from supplier pricing, engineering changes, process changes and manufacturing improvements.
- Analyze manufacturing cost variances, including material usage, purchase price, labor efficiency, overhead absorption, scrap, yield and production efficiency.
- Ensure appropriate accounting treatment and reporting of manufacturing costs, including cost accounting journal entries and month-end close support.
- Continuously improve cost accounting processes, controls and ERP functionality, ensuring consistency across all manufacturing sites. Inventory Valuation & Management
- Own the financial integrity of inventory valuation across manufacturing operations, including raw materials, WIP and finished goods.
- Perform and review inventory reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and analyze excess/obsolete inventory and reserve requirements.
- Maintain strong internal controls over inventory transactions and valuation, including oversight of physical counts and cycle-count programs.
- Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to improve inventory accuracy, turnover and working-capital performance. New Product Introduction (NPI) Support
- Partner with Engineering, Operations and Supply Chain to support new product introductions from development through production.
- Develop product cost estimates and establish standard costs for new products, including BOMs, routings, labor standards and overhead allocations.
- Evaluate the cost impact of engineering changes and design modifications, providing input to pricing and profitability analysis.
- Ensure new products are appropriately integrated into the ERP and cost accounting processes before launch. Manufacturing Cost Performance
- Provide financial analysis of manufacturing cost performance across the three sites, including productivity, capacity utilization and other operational cost drivers.
- Identify significant cost trends, risks and opportunities, and communicate findings to Operations and FP&A.
- Develop and maintain cost KPIs and management reporting for manufacturing operations. Planning & Forecasting Support
- Provide manufacturing cost assumptions and outlooks to FP&A for budgeting, forecasting and gross-margin analysis, while FP&A retains ownership of the integrated forecast. Business Partnership
- Serve as the finance partner to Operations, Engineering and Supply Chain on cost accounting, product costing and manufacturing cost performance.
- Support operational improvement initiatives through financial analysis and cost transparency. WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional accounting designations preferred
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
- 3-5+ years of management or supervisory experience leading accounting teams.
- Experience with standard costing, inventory accounting, and manufacturing financial analysis.
- Experience in supporting both in-house and contract manufacturing operations is preferred.
- Experience with ERP systems and manufacturing costing modules.
- Experience participating in annual budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close processes. Technical Knowledge
