- Provide project management guidance and systems engineering support including design, system assurance and integration, and testing procedures related to vehicles.
- Preparing, verifying, modifying and approving new and/or modifying existing technical specifications and drawings.
- Performing safety, maintainability and reliability analysis to ensure acceptable standards of performance.
- Inspecting, assessing and preparing engineering details for the modification of vehicles and equipment in order to ensure acceptable standards of performance and reliability.
- Preparing, reviewing and approving estimates, material lists, standards, policies, schedules and designs for repair and fabrication work.
- Conducting, coordinating and supervising various comprehensive testing programs of new vehicles; monitoring, analyzing and interpreting the data obtained to improve vehicle reliability.
- Reviewing and preparing various reports and other correspondence related to project technical issues, schedules and interfaces related to vehicle systems engineering;
- Performing failure analysis studies in order to determine the cause of failure and providing an engineered solution.
- Investigating and diagnosing complex electro-mechanical engineering problems on the vehicle and its systems and recommending solutions.
- Assisting the Materials and Procurement Department with specifications for reverse engineered components and identifying alternate suppliers.
- Analyzing contractors’ confidential tenders and making recommendations.
- Providing support to the Vehicle Engineering quality assurance, safety certification, reliability, commissioning, training and warranty processes.
- Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer. - Completion of a university degree in mechanical, electrical, or related discipline in engineering, with extensive experience in the design and systems engineering of transit systems in urban transit applications, or any combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is mandatory.
- Additionally, registration as a Project Management Professional, certification as a Truck and Coach Technician (310T), Automotive Service Technician (310S) are considered to be valued assets.
- Comprehensive knowledge of formal systems engineering techniques applied to complex electro-mechanical systems;
- Working knowledge of design, system assurances (e.g. reliability, availability, maintainability, safety), formal requirements capture and traceability, system integration and interface management;
- Knowledge of government and safety regulations, legislation, procedures and standards applicable to urban transit vehicles;
- Strong knowledge of project management principles, methods and practices with the ability to carry out and/or coordinate large projects and s
