Powerex Corp., a fast-paced, dynamic, wholly owned energy marketing subsidiary of BC Hydro, has a full-time opportunity for an analyst to join our Market Risk team. ABOUT THE ROLE
- Valuation and price risk estimation for a diverse portfolio of power, natural gas, and environmental products.
- Accurately producing regular and custom risk reporting in a timely manner.
- Building, maintaining, and improving valuation models, risk measurement models, risk reporting, and monitoring tools.
- Monitoring trade activity for compliance within the risk policy limits.
- Conducting custom analysis to support the evaluation of structured and strategic business opportunities.
QUALFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience working as an analyst in a business environment.
- An undergraduate degree in engineering, math, physics or a similar highly analytical field. Completion of a master’s degree or other related advanced designation is an asset, but not mandatory.
- Excellent skills in standard business software (e.g., Excel, Tableau or equivalent) supported by programming skills in VBA and SQL.
- Self‑starter who can build strong relationships using good verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of risk management fundamentals as well as the ability to identify risks related to commercial structures and products.
- Knowledge of derivatives analysis, stochastic simulation and statistical analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to solve challenging technical problems without the guarantee of adequate or perfect information.
- Ability to understand and communicate complex ideas in a simple way and in a busy, deadline‑driven environment with changing priorities.

$95,000 - $115,000 a year
Starting salary for this role is listed above. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
