The Vancouver Art Gallery is seeking skilled AV Installers and Event Technicians to support our exhibitions and live events. Responsibilities:

Duties of an Event Technician:

1. Set up, operate and strike AV equipment including projectors, sound systems, DMX lighting and video displays for events
2. Provide technical support for live performances, artist talks, panel discussions, rental events, galas, Art Party's and similar events
3. Troubleshoot and resolve AV issues in real time
4. Collaborate with event coordinators and the AV event lead to achieve logistical and creative goals

Duties of an Exhibition Installer:

1. Install, configure and maintain AV equipment including projectors, sound systems, video displays and theatrical lighting
2. Manage cable runs including fishing cables through walls, ceilings and floors while ensuring minimal visual impact to the exhibition
3. Meticulous approach to cable labelling and documenting system configurations
4. Termination of various cables including: XLR, TRS, Cat and more
5. Configure and install local area networks for complex multimedia artwork from the collection or on loan to the Gallery
6. Account for voltage drop and circuit management to maintain consistent AV performance for the length of the exhibition
7. Collaborate closely with the lead AV installer, technical staff and curators to achieve creative goals

Additional General Duties:

1. Ensure health and safety protocols are followed whilst working at height, lifting heavy items, using power tools and managing cable runs
2. Support the Gallery's overall goals towards a cohesive brand voice and identity

This role contributes to the overall success of the Audio-Visual team and ensures contribution to the Gallery's strategic goals.

Qualifications:

As Audio-Visual Technician II, you have completed Grade 12 or equivalent. You also bring a minimum of 2 years' experience.

In addition, you have the following:
Essential Skills + Attributes:

1. In-depth technical knowledge of signal flow, sound mixing, lighting control and video distribution
2. Experience with temporary rigging of projectors, lighting and speakers
3. Experience working with the MS365 suite, project management software, Adobe Creative Suite, BA Connect and other software as required
4. Basic knowledge of networking
5. Strong ability to prioritize tasks effectively
6. Excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work well under pressure
7. Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to follow complex and detailed instructions
8. Quick learner of software and hardware, with the ability to adapt
9. Strong communication and teamwork abilities
10. Proactive attitude towards learning new skills
11. Ability to lift 25kg

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Experience with simple scripting and automation for macOS and Windows systems
2. Experience with electronics repair and troubleshooting
3. Experience working with vintage AV equipment (e.g., 16mm film projectors, slide machines)
4. Experience with metal and wood fabrication
5. Scissor lift or WAV (Work Access Vehicle) license
