Carleton University invites applications from outstanding researchers for Canada Impact+ Research Chairs at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

The Canada Impact+ Research Chairs will advance ambitious and transformative projects, build and maintain exceptional research teams, and collaborate with partners across sectors and borders. Impact+ chairholders are expected to drive the translation of discoveries into applications, commercialization and social and economic benefits for Canada and the world. Awarded Chairs are valued at either $500,000 or $1 million CAD per year for a period of 8 years, including salaries and benefits for the Chairholder and their personnel. There is a potential for approved renewals for an additional 4 years at 50% of the award value. Appointment is conditional on the approval of the nomination for a Canada Impact+ Research Chair through separate application process, and results are expected in June 2026 or September 2026. Chairholders must advance one or more of the following strategic priority areas identified by the Government of Canada:

- advanced digital technologies (including artificial intelligence, quantum and cybersecurity)
- health, including biotechnology
- clean technology and resource value chains
- environment, climate resilience and the Arctic
- food and water security
- democratic and community resilience
- manufacturing and advanced materials; and/or
- defence and dual-use technologies

Candidates wishing to be considered for nomination by Carleton University for a Canada Impact+ Research Chair in intake one should submit their application by January 29, 2026. Candidates selected for intake one will be required to complete and submit a registration and application to the Canada Impact+ Research Chair program in March 2026.

All appointments are conditional on the approval of the application by the Canada Impact+ Research Chair Program.

About the Academic Unit

The appointments will be made to the most appropriate academic unit depending on the expertise and qualifications of the successful candidates.

- Research/academic merit and leadership skills of the nominee, including demonstrated track record of generating social, economic and policy impacts
- Record of attracting and mentoring students, trainees and research personnel
- Commitment to establishing an equitable and inclusive research environment
- Quality of the high-level research program, including alignment with Canada Impact+ strategic priority areas and Carleton University sub-areas
- Potential for collaboration with existing Carleton University faculty.

In addition, Carleton University requires applicants to:

- Be eligible for nomination as a Canada Impact+ Research Chair: nominees must be working and residing outside of Canada at the time of nomination
- Have a PhD or equivalent terminal degree
- Currently hold a position in academic, non-profit, government, or industry
- Currently hold the rank of full or associate professor (with the expectation of promotion to full professor within two years of nomination) - Note: Applicants from outside the academic sector will be considered and must possess qualifications for a full-time academic appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level.
- Have a willingness to comply with funders' terms and conditions for research security compliance.
- Have experience teaching courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
- Maximum two-page signed letter of application expressing interest in being nominated for a Canada Impact+ Research Chair and specifying

- the strategic priority area,

- the Carleton sub-area (if relevant),

- a description of why Carleton University is an ideal environment for your research program, and

- preferred department or Faculty for appointment.

- Maximum three-page statement of contributions to research and leadership in the strategic research area and/or sub-area, that also identifies strengths in and/or experience in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in your teaching, service, and/or scholarly activities;
- Maximum three-page summary of the proposed research program, including description of potential for collaborations with existing Carleton University faculty and the potential to generate social, economic and/or policy impacts for Canada;
- Three sample research publications.

In Canada, both the Government of Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities have introduced research security policies and guidelines to protect Canada's world-class research. To ensure candidates can meet the federal and provincial research security requirements for external research funding, research security will be considered as part of the adjudication process.
