Do you want to use your relationship-building skills to help make the world a better place? Are you an organized connector who loves to help people collaborate, find information and build networks? Refugee 613 has an exciting opportunity for a warm, welcoming coordinator to help us make it easier for newcomers to find and use settlement information and services.

About OCISO

OCISO is a settlement organization that supports immigrants through the journey of making Canada their home by providing creative and responsive programs that are culturally and linguistically appropriate, by building community through mutual respect and partnerships, and by fostering healthy and inclusive spaces for open dialogue and healing. OCISO is the host agency for Refugee 613, providing legal, finance and administrative services and oversight.

About Refugee 613

Refugee 613 is a communications organization created by a network of service providers, refugee sponsors and community volunteers. We provide our partners and the public with information, connection and inspiration to improve the welcome and integration of refugees. We promote information equity and bridge information gaps for newcomer communities. As part of our commitment to actively work to dismantle systemic racism, we strive to embed equity and inclusion in all our practices and services. Our small, energetic and diverse team highly values life experience, curiosity and creativity. We work hard, laugh a lot and care deeply about what we do. We particularly encourage applications from former refugees and other newcomers with the relevant skills and life experience to help Refugee 613 continue to deliver innovative and relevant services to build a more welcoming world.

Position Summary

Refugee 613 is looking for a talented relationship-builder to help us facilitate external engagement and promotion activities for two key areas of Refugee 613's mission: the Newcomer Info Hub and our refugee sponsorship activities. This includes maintaining existing relationships with organizations serving refugees across Canada and building new ones to facilitate referrals and information flow, promoting our Afghan Digital Service pilot to organizations and networks working with refugees, and assisting the project team in connecting members of the ADS to services in their communities. The Community Outreach Coordinator will also serve as the main point of contact for our private sponsorship work, including our research and consulting to improve the recruitment of private sponsors in Canada and around the world.

Main Responsibilities:

- Lead stakeholder management and outreach activities of the Newcomer Info Hub, including developing informal partnerships and conducting consultations with settlement service providers and settlement umbrella organizations
- Collaborate with the project team to implement the promotion of the Info Hub's Afghan Digital Service pilot in newcomer communities
- Identify and explore new sources of information resources relevant to newcomers
- Support the Refugee 613 team's related content production and promotion
- Provide research and analysis related to key topics in settlement and health
- Provide project coordination support to Refugee 613's activities related to private sponsorship of refugees, including assisting with convening, logistics and stakeholder relations as needed
- Prepare and deliver presentations to external audiences
- Provide support for the day-to-day activities of the project as needed
- Represent Refugee 613 in committees, workshops, webinars and conferences as approved by the director
- Other tasks and duties as assigned

Qualifications:

- Post-secondary degree from a recognized university or a college diploma, or equivalent practical experience in a professional setting
- At least one year of professional experience in a communications, outreach or project management role
- Knowledgeable about Canadian settlement and integration services and policies: you are familiar with the settlement sector, different refugee and immigration streams, eligibilities and services
- Excellent listening skills: you know how to identify what your audience needs and respond with empathy
- Experience building communities: you are warm and welcoming, while also strategic and organized
- Experience managing projects according to a defined schedule and deliverables: you are familiar with professional project management principles and software
- Experience working with people from highly diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds: you have worked or volunteered with refugees or other newcomers in the past
- Proven ability to make complex topics easy to understand through clear writing and the use of plain language
- Highly organized and self-motivated: you can demonstrate how you manage your workload and prioritize tasks
- Ability to work with a small, passionate team in a sensitive, respectful manner
- Excellent verbal and written English and French are both mandatory
- Proficiency in a third language is considered an asset
- Proficiency with the full MS Office Suite, project management software (eg Asana) and databases
- Additional languages, in particular Dari or Pashto, are considered strong assets
- Ability to thrive working in an open-space environment, remotely, or a hybrid model
