UNIT SUMMARY
The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) is a collaborative program funded and operated jointly by Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Josephs Hospital. The Program is committed to change and innovation, through education, service and research, to bring the highest quality science into healthcare for the benefit of the community and to participate in the clinical application and interpretation of the science.

POSITION SUMMARY
In accordance with the vision, mission, values and goals of the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) and those of St. Joseph's Healthcare, you will be responsible for performing a variety of Transfusion Medicine related tests and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Medical Laboratory Technologist Certification (Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences) or equivalent
2. Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
3. Recent Transfusion Medicine experience (within the last 2 years) required
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
5. Excellent organizational skills
6. Must be able to work in a team environment

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Serological testing in Transfusion Medicine
2. Antibody investigation
3. Carrying out quality control and quality assurance in Transfusion Practice
4. Inventory control for blood products
5. Preparation and storage of blood products
6. Appropriate utilization of the Laboratory Information System in Transfusion Medicine
7. Communication with other health care professionals related to Transfusion Medicine practices
8. Other duties as assigned
