We have an opportunity for a Manager, Data Engineering to join our Data Engineering team in Burnaby, CA, reporting to the Director, Engineering. In this pivotal role, you’ll lead a team of engineers as part of the Cloud-Engineering organization. This team is tasked with the design and implementation of the platforms, services, data and ETL pipelines that make up the Infoblox Data Lake. As a front-line manager this position requires expertise in data engineering, cloud application development, and driving the development of ETL processes to production; powering Infoblox’s latest products. You’re an experienced engineer and front-line manager looking to lead a team of software and data engineers in a product development and engineering team. You have a proven track record of success leading technical teams through planning, execution & delivery of complex projects. You’re interested in leading a cross functional team of software developers and data engineers. Additionally, you’re an effective leader; ready to manage the goals, performance, hiring and development of a motivated team.
Be a Contributor — What You’ll Do
- Lead a team of software/data engineers and help them with day-to-day activities like code development, code review, deployment etc.
- Coordinating with developers, analysts & data scientists and product managers to gather requirements, itemize features to plan, implement & deploy solutions.
- Leading the development of cloud-based applications leveraging Python & Golang in conjunction with many other AWS technologies.
- Building and delivering robust ETL pipelines/Kubernetes applications for curation and refinement of big-data sets in a production environment.
- Identifying new opportunities for process improvement by creating metrics and monitoring services that track our efficiency.
- Leveraging a team of engineers to deploy best practices for storing, managing and serving our data.
- Hire engineers as needed (externally or internally). Support career growth of engineers through performance management and guidance.
Be Prepared — What You Bring
- 10+ years of industry experience in Data Engineering with 2+ year experience in managing team.
- Proficient in Python, Golang, Scala or Java.
- Knowledge of current software engineering methodologies including object-oriented techniques, use cases, and design patterns is required.
- Experience leading a data engineering or software development team.
- Expertise in Bigdata - MapReduce, Spark, Kafka, In-memory Database, HIVE, HBase, Hadoop, etc.
- Demonstrated leadership capability with effective management and coaching.
- Strong ability to handle ambiguity and generate results.
- Master’s degree in CS, CE or other technical field such as math or physics.
Be Successful — Your Path
First 90 Days: Immerse in our culture, connect with mentors (Blox Buddies), and map the systems and meet with key stakeholders that rely on your work. Discuss and create short/long term goals.
Six Months: Complete onboarding by demonstrating team management by handling customer escalations and feature releases shipping quality software products on time. Drive customer escalations meetings with support team, Customers to ensure Customer issues are addressed with high priority. Lead Scrum meetings and driving stories to completion.
One Year: Become an expert in Data Lake target state architecture, team management, handling customer escalations and feature releases as per plan shipping quality software products on time. Apply coding best practices and provide in depth-reviews on the team’s pull requests. Drive customer escalations meetings with support team, Customers to ensure Customer issues are addressed with high priority. Lead Scrum meetings and driving stories to completion. Be a thought leader in one or more domains of the Data Lake, driving development and mentoring teammates in this domain.
