The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a regulated member of the inter-professional health care team who utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills to provide care to individuals across the life span. The LPN provides care in alignment with Alberta Health Services mission to provide patient focused quality health services and the AHS values of respect, accountability, transparency, engagement, safety, learning, and performance. The LPN collaborates and participates in the provision of health care to patients and families in a variety of settings. The LPN’s practice encompasses the application of nursing knowledge, skills and judgment to assess patient needs and provides nursing care, which is reflective of their level of education and knowledge. The LPN performs restricted activities and provides care according to the needs of the patient population and the design of work. The LPN practice is based on legal authorization and competency as defined by Schedule 10 of the Health Professions act, Schedule 7.1 of the Government Organization Act, the Licenses Practical Nurses Profession Regulation and the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). The LPN accepts responsibility for continuing competence through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. The LPN adheres to CLPNA Professional Practice Standards and Code of Ethics, and the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Code of Conduct and applicable AHS governance documents and policies. The LPN is responsible for his/her nursing practices as defined by CLPNA and for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid within his/her scope of practice. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). BCLS issued from Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) only. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job. Duties that involve periods of physical activity such as standing, bending, walking and lifting. Qualified candidates will be invited to interview and if successful, may be required to complete a 4-week Elsevier Shadow Health e-SIM course with a minimum score of 80% as part of the final assessment process. Candidates who successfully complete both the interview and e-SIM assessment will be required to attend a 3-week centralized orientation in Edmonton prior to starting the unit/program-specific orientation.
