- Current Work Location Arrangement: Fully on site – the position requires 100% on site placement; it is operationally dependent based on established criteria; remote work is not an option.
- Salary: $39.59 – $52.10/per hour (as per ONA collective agreement)

Position summary:

We are currently seeking a highly motivated health professional to contribute to our organizational mission of working with our communities to promote and protect health and prevent disease.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Public Health Nurses will work specifically within all aspects of the Vaccine Preventable Diseases Program, including immunization administration, cold chain maintenance support, data management, quality assurance, and ISPA/CCEYA legislation.

Responsibilities:

- Provides vaccines in schools, office clinics, and community settings following public health standards.
- Monitors and manages vaccine storage and handling to maintain potency and comply with protocols.
- Accurately enters and updates immunization records in Panorama and maintain confidentiality.
- Provides clear, respectful education and guidance to clients, families, and community partners.
- Addresses issues related to vaccine delivery, documentation, and client concerns promptly.
- Works closely with colleagues and multidisciplinary teams to achieve program goals.
- Responds to emerging public health priorities and adjust clinic operations as required.
- Ensures compliance with documentation standards and program protocols
- Uses clinical skills to assess the client’s health status to enable joint planning, implementation, and evaluation of appropriate nursing interventions
- Provides nursing care and counselling on health-related issues.
- Supports the essential duties of other public health nurses in their absence.
- Maintains documentation records according to the standards of the College of Nurses and provides reports.
- Writes articles for newsletters, newspapers, and other media and participates in media interviews.
- In consultation with the manager, works with fellow team members on policy advocacy within the framework of an approved agency plan.

Requirements:

- Recognized Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing Degree.
- Current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current CPR level C certification.
- Minimum 3 years public health experience preferred.
- Minimum of one year full-time equivalent experience (within the last three years) in the area of vaccine‑preventable diseases.
- Minimum of one year full-time equivalent experience in the area of medication administration (within the last three years) or successful completion of a Medication Administration refresher course (within the last two years).
- Proficiency in administering injections as authorized under the Controlled Acts (Nursing Act 1991).
- Knowledge of the publicly funded vaccine schedule.
- Competency to work under the authority of medical directives.
- Proficiency in clinical assessment.
- Skills relating to public and media relations.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Non‑judgmental and client‑centered approach to service planning and delivery.
- Ability to work under pressure, to anticipate potential problems/conflicts, and take appropriate actions.
- Demonstrates computer proficiency.
- Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is required.
- Advanced oral and written proficiency in French is an asset.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check (vulnerable sector) is a condition of employment.
- Maintains current Ontario driver’s licence and has access to a reliable vehicle with agency required insurance.
