The City of Iqaluit is seeking an experienced individual to join our team as the Community Communications Liaison.

Position Details

- Status: Full-time, Permanent

- Salary: $65,811.20 per annum, 35 hours/week

- Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum

- Housing: No Staff Housing Available

This employment opportunity is open to Nunavut Inuit only.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Manager of Communication and Customer Service, the Community Communications Liaison acts as a vital link between residents and the organization. The role requires confident communication in Inuktitut. Responsibilities include connecting residents with city services, supporting and coordinating city communications and customer service delivery, advocating for Nunavut Inuit and local residents, and working with city departments to ensure positive resident experiences. The Liaison will also create communication materials for internal and external audiences, including website and social media content.

The position aims to strengthen Iqaluit as an Inuit and cultural capital, promote Inuit culture, and meet language obligations under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement. The Liaison will assist with presentations, support the implementation of the City’s Inuit Employment Plan (IEP), and contribute to the recruitment and retention of Inuit staff.

Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a College Diploma or University Degree in Communications, Cultural Studies, Business Administration, or a related field, with at least 2 years of experience in a municipal, territorial, federal government, or not-for-profit environment involving communications, programs, or service delivery.

Required skills include:

- Fluency in Inuktitut and English, both speaking and writing

- Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills

- Professional writing skills

- Computer literacy with MS Office Suite

- Organizational skills with experience in file management systems

- Knowledge of Iqaluit’s history

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Additional Requirements

All relevant certifications are required at the time of application. The successful candidate must submit a Criminal Record Check.
