Superintendent Job Description

Job Summary:

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader with experience in managing site activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to the required quality standards. They will foster a collaborative work environment and effectively manage variability posed by challenging worksites.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain up-to-date training in accordance with industry programs.
  • Familiarize themselves with WorkSafe BC rules and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with the safety department and disseminate relevant safety information to the project team and subcontractors.
  • Read and comprehend the project scope, project control estimates, and client contract.
  • Review and understand project-related subcontracts.
  • Communicate and track any changes to project scope, requests for additional work, and client contractor subcontracts to PM.
  • Review and understand relevant project specifications and drawings.
  • Participate in the development of site-specific workplans and schedules, communicating that information to the onsite team.
  • Implement site-specific workplans and continually audit their effectiveness against project specifications to ensure quality and accuracy of work completed.
  • Provide daily updates on progress to Project Manager.
  • Maintain and update project schedule as required.
Safety:
  • Lead in the execution and implementation of all safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with the safety department.
  • Read, understand, and follow Corporate Health and Safety Program, Policy, and Procedures.
  • Ensure health and safety is considered in the performance of all activities both on and off the job.
Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Civil/Environmental Engineering Degree or Civil Engineering Technologist or Technician Diploma and/or equivalent field experience is an asset.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experiences from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a Superintendent role is required.
  • Experience in the Civil/Environmental industry is an asset.
