ABOUT THE GRIFF
The Griff is MacEwan University's student publication. We publish local news, opinions, and more to our website, socials, and in our monthly magazine.
The graphics editor at the Griff is responsible for the following:
- Creating graphics and illustrations for both print and digital
- Laying out the magazine
- Organizing projects/assignments concerning graphics and illustrations
You will work closely with the photo editor to define the look of the Griff. Additionally, you will work with the digital team to ensure they have images to publish and are sticking to our established style.
We work as a tight, creative team to make all sorts of cool ideas come to life. At the Griff, you'll play a part in building the day-to-day conversations on campus, as well as the legacy of the university.
The Griff is a service to students. All editors are expected to assist our contributors, and support the MacEwan community through their work.
ABOUT SAMU
The Students' Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) is a non-profit organization working independently from MacEwan University to support students. Our purpose is to enrich the student experience by focusing on their non-academic needs through an array of student-driven programs and services.
We are governed by elected student representatives who set the strategic vision on behalf of students. With support from over 50 full- and part-time staff, we keep our mandate student-focused to achieve the vision.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Magazine
- Work with the photo editor to create visuals that work for the publication.
- Layout stories, images, and advertisements in the magazine in time for print deadlines each month
- Coordinate with the other editors to finalize the magazine for print
- Implement final copy edits before print
- Writing and reporting
- Conduct interviews and write articles, if needed
- Creative
- Create and design art for the magazine and digital channels
- Work with the team to plan, research, and execute design projects
- Edit the work of others and ensure a standard of quality for our graphics
- Brainstorm and execute design ideas for stories or other design projects
- Organization
- Assign and manage articles/projects, set deadlines, and enforce them
- Mentorship
- Guide our contributors to success by helping them with any technical or creative needs
- Work with contributors to edit and modify their work to match our standards
- Assign graphics projects to contributors if needed
- Meetings
- Attend a minimum of two meetings a week: our team's editorial meeting and our contributor pitch meetings.
- Ambassador
- Assist in projects related to contributor recruitment
- Expand the brand and reputation of the Griff online
- Assist in promoting the Griff at events like new student orientation
- Other Duties as Assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Preference will be given to current MacEwan Students registered in a minimum of one class during either Fall 2025 or Winter 2026 term.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Confident speaking with others
- Knowledge of Canadian Press style is an asset
- Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines
- Being able to lay out a document in Adobe InDesign
- Experience with Google Docs and the Google suite of tools
- Experience with multimedia content creation and social media is an asset
- Experience with Adobe tools is an asset
- Illustrating skills are an asset
- Interest in news media
WORKING CONSIDERATIONS
- Sedentary with Light Physical Effort – Sitting, Standing, Walking, Kneeling, Lifting – up to 10 pounds, Manual Dexterity
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Up to 30 hours/week July 2 - August 30, 2025 & Up to 20 hours/week September 2025 - March 31, 2026, with office hours between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Will work around the student's schedule. Some evening and weekend work may be required for this position.
