Overview

This position works in the Eileen Dailly Aquatics Program organizational unit. This is aquatic leadership work in assisting a supervisor in the provision of aquatic instructional and recreational programs at Eileen Dailly Pool on an assigned shift, supervising and supporting the work of a team of full‑time, part‑time and auxiliary lifeguards, instructors, and recreation attendants.

Responsibilities

- Deck supervision, lesson supervision, ensuring that the pool areas and changeroom areas are clean, safe and well‑maintained.

- Lead by example and participate in instructional, lifeguarding, maintenance, custodial and clerical work.

- Participate in the planning, organization and promotion of aquatic programs, aquatic fitness programs and special events.

- Conduct swimming lessons, lifeguarding and safety training programs for aquatic staff.

- Participate in the hiring and evaluation of staff and volunteers.

- Be responsible for emergency response, prepare and maintain records and reports.

- Work effectively and courteously with the public, user groups, and a diverse staff team.

Qualifications and Requirements

- Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by courses in lifesaving, lifeguarding, aquatics instruction and pool operation and maintenance.

- Sound related experience including supervisory experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.

- Knowledge of lifesaving, lifeguarding, CPR, first aid, teaching methods, group leadership techniques, pool chemistry, filtration, chlorination, heating and operating procedures.

- Knowledge of principles and practices involved in implementing, evaluating, organizing and offering of instructional and recreational aquatic programs.

- Driver's license for the Province of British Columbia.

- Licenses: Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor, National Lifeguard – Pool Award, Standard First Aid. Additional certifications (e.g., Swim Instructor Trainer, National Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid Instructor, BCRPA Aquatic Fitness Leader, Pool Operator) are an asset.

- Police Information Check may be required.

Schedule

80 hours bi‑weekly; Monday 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM, Thursday 12:30 PM – 9:00 PM, Friday to Sunday 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM.
